Jenetta Murphy Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Ronald Taylor II Funeral Home - Washington D.C. on Feb. 26, 2026.
Hello, beautiful souls. This is Jenetta Murphy, though many of you know me fondly as Netta Pooh. As I've always believed, "Life is a beautiful journey that's meant to be embraced to the fullest every day." I was born on the 9th of June, 1969, in Washington, District of Columbia. I spent my childhood years growing up in Prince George's County, MD, and later made Washington, D.C my home. I found great joy in my work in housekeeping, dedicating my time and energy to bring comfort and cleanliness to those around me.

I had the pleasure of being married to Terry Murphy, and although he preceded me in this journey beyond, our love continues to be a guiding light in my life. I am also survived by my dear ex-husband, Bernard Sr, and our wonderful children - Shawnnetta Williams, Shawnta Foster, Bernard Jr, Raynard Foster, and William III. I am the proud sister of Jadine Yellowday, Laverne Perry, and Jerome Strickland. My niece, Tanisha Hightower, holds a special place in my heart. I am also preceded in death by my dear father, J.D. Foster, my loving mother, Avis Jackson, my son-in-law, Markeith Sr, and my sister-in-law, Crystal Strickland.

My life was filled with laughter, love, and a whole lot of Washington Commanders football. I found joy in attending cabarets with family, tempting lady luck at casinos, and satiating my wanderlust through travel. In my younger days, I spent countless hours with my close-knit friends at the American Legion. I lived 7 exhilarating years in Charlotte, NC, before returning to my beloved D.C. As Helen Keller once said, "Life is either a daring adventure or nothing at all," and I chose to make mine a daring adventure.

Now, it is the 1st of February, 2026, and I have embarked on my next grand adventure. As I write my own story from a different realm now, let's celebrate the life I lived and the memories we shared. I invite you to leave your memories of me and upload photos to my memorial page. Let's keep the spirit of Netta Pooh alive through shared stories and cherished moments.
