Margaret Murphy Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by The Wood Mortuary, Inc. - Greer on Feb. 26, 2026.
Margaret Grace "Maggie" Murphy, 71, of Greer, South Carolina, passed away unexpectedly on February 25, 2026, leaving behind a family who loved her deeply and will miss her beyond words.

Born in Memphis, Tennessee, Margaret was the daughter of the late Patrick Grace and Josephine Grace. She was a proud graduate of the University of Memphis and later earned her Master's degree from Kennesaw State University. She dedicated her professional life to serving others through her work with Prisma Health.

Margaret was a woman of warmth, intelligence, and strength. She loved a good crossword puzzle, a lively game of Mahjong, and gathering around the kitchen to cook for the people she loved. Her home was a place of comfort, conversation, and laughter.

Above all else, Margaret was devoted to her family. She shared 26 years of marriage with her beloved husband, Pat Chaney. She was a proud and loving mother to her two sons, Joel Murphy of Atlanta, Georgia, and Andrew Murphy (Erica) of Greer, South Carolina.

Her greatest joy was her granddaughter, Nova Murphy. Being Nova's grandmother was one of the happiest roles of her life. She delighted in every story, every visit, every milestone. She loved Nova with a fullness and tenderness that defined her final years, and that love will continue to surround Nova always.

Margaret is also survived by her sister, Louise Belch (Ronald) of Talladega, Alabama. She was preceded in death by her first husband and father of her sons, Charles Bubba Murphy, her brother, Paul Grace, and her sister, Diane Odom.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 7, 2026, at Greenville Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 1135 State Park Road, Greenville, South Carolina 29609.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Greenville Unitarian Universalist Fellowship.

Margaret's legacy is one of love - steady, generous, and enduring - and she will remain forever in the hearts of those who knew her.
