Frederick Stevens Obituary

Frederick Atherton Stevens, Jr., age 96, passed away peacefully on Feb.

25, 2026 at Watson Assisted Living in Dover, NH. He was predeceased by

his wife of 70 years, Elizabeth (Betsy) Boyd Stevens.

Fred was born in Melrose, MA to Frederick A. Stevens, Sr. and Marie Owen

Stevens. He was a graduate of Melrose High School and completed a post-

graduate year at Buckingham Browne & Nichols School in Cambridge, MA.

He then attended the USMA at West Point, graduating in 1952. Fred

served in the US Army for 21 years, retiring in 1973 at the rank of Lt.

Colonel. Following retirement, he earned a Master's Degree in

Administration from George Washington University.

Fred and Betsy were married in 1953 and for 21 years shared the "Army

Life". Postings in the USA included Texas, Oklahoma, Massachusetts,

Maryland and Virginia. He was also stationed in Great Britain for 3 ½

years where he was US Liaison officer and exchange instructor from Fort

Bliss to the British Artillery School, Manorbier, Wales. In addition, Fred

served in both the Korean and Vietnam conflicts.

After retirement from the Army, Fred worked for Applied Data Research,

the Potomac Electric Power Company, and the Congressional Research

Service of the Library of Congress.

Fred and Betsy enjoyed summertime residence and sailing in Duxbury, MA

for many years. They moved there permanently in 1985, where Fred

started his own consulting business in office equipment and productivity.

Fred was active in numerous military and community organizations. He was

a lifetime member of the Association of Graduates USMA, the Military

Order of the Loyal Legion of the US, the American Legion, and the Military

Officers Association. He also was a member of the Duxbury Yacht Club,

Duxbury First Parish Church UU and the Duxbury Investment Club. In

addition, he served as president of the board of directors for Cura VNA and

as president of the Duxbury Men's Club.

Fred is survived by his two children, Wyatt Stevens and his wife, Giselle,

and Elizabeth (Lisa) Giannechini and her husband, Tony. He also leaves

his two granddaughters, Alice Stevens and Libby Giannechini, his sister-

in-law, Alexandra (Sandy) B. Earle, and two great grandchildren.

Fred will always be remembered for his easy going manner and goodwill

toward others. His family would like to express their deep gratitude to the

staff of Watson Assisted Living for their kind support and care while Fred

was a resident.

A private burial will be held in the spring at Mt. Auburn

Cemetery, Cambridge, MA.
