AGE: 73 • Lakewood
Arlene Elizabeth Hegedus, age 73, of Lakewood, NJ, passed away on Friday, June 9, 2017 at the Monmouth Medical Center Southern Campus in Lakewood, NJ.
Arlene was born on December 14, 1943, in Edison, NJ, and she was the daughter of the late Elizabeth and Stephen Zigre. Formerly of Edison, NJ, she was a resident of Lakewood for the last 46 years. Arlene was a retired cafeteria worker, and had served the Lakewood Public School System for 22 years. Arlene was a generous soul who enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
Arlene is survived by her beloved husband of 53 years, Joseph; her son Michael Hegedus and his wife Melissa; 2 grandchildren, Gabriel and Violet Hegedus; 4 sisters, Betty Lou Varone and her husband Robert, Cynthia Southwell, Vanessa Cockton and her husband Danny, and Lisa Zigre; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Tuesday, June 13, 2017, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the D'Elia Funeral Home, 1300 Vermont Avenue, Lakewood, NJ 08701. Her funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 14, 2017, in the St. Mary of the Lake Church, 43 Madison Ave., Lakewood, NJ 08701. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.

Sending my deepest condolences to the Zigre and Hegedus families. My Aunt Arlene was a very special lady-always kind, generous, and thoughtful to everyone around her. When I was a young girl, she always made me feel special and loved. As a grown woman, she inspired me with her strength of spirit and positive attitude during her courageous battle with cancer. It is my prayer that all of those who are mourning her loss will experience God's compassion and mercy to help them through this time of sorrow.

Heartfelt sympathy to the family. My prayers to all my Zigre cousins. I have a lot of memories of special family times together at Grandma Laskody's house and we spent a lot of time at her house too. Arlene was always looking after her little cousins when we were together. I pray for a peaceful rest in heaven for Arlene.
