Agnes Snook Obituary
Agnes Snook
Bridgewater - Agnes (Sibilia) Snook, 88, of Bridgewater NJ, passed away peacefully on February 6, 2021 after suffering from an illness. Agnes was a resident of Bridgewater, NJ for more than 50 years, and maintained a strong connection with the neighboring town of Raritan, NJ where she was born. Agnes was born in 1932, during the Great Depression, to Rocco and Mary Golis Sibilia. She grew up on Loomis Street along with her three sisters and four brothers.
Mrs. Snook began her career at RCA and retired from AT&T. She started her career at a time when computers were operated by punched cards and tape drives. After retirement, she was a proud volunteer for the John Basilone Parade Committee. Agnes had many creative passions and enjoyed oil painting, ceramics, and gardening. She had a sharp wit and was a natural story-teller. She loved to share stories about her childhood including adventures by the Raritan Canal, and recalled time spent at the Golis family farm in Pennsylvania. Her eyes would twinkle, almost mischievously, when she laughed. She loved the Christmas season. She lived life on her own terms. She will be dearly missed.
She was preceded in death by parents Rocco and Mary Golis Sibilia; her son, David Snook of Bridgewater; her brothers Nicholas Sibilia and his wife Jeanne of Maine, Angelo Sibilia and his wife Shirley of Somerville, and James Sibilia of Raritan; her sister Julia Williams of Bernardsville; brother-in-laws Fred Steinkopf and Maurice Fredericks, and sister-in-law, Barbara Sibilia.
Surviving are her daughter, Sharon (Larry) Blanke of Bridgewater; her daughter-in-law Mary Catherine Snook; her six grandchildren, Shelby (Snook) Briggs, Steve Snook, Christopher Snook, Nicholas Blanke, Daniel Blanke, and Timothy Blanke; her four great-grandchildren Brenna Blanke, Lauren Blanke, Naomi Blanke, and Isaiah Blanke; her brother Peter Sibilia of West Orange; her sisters Loretta Steinkopf of Bernardsville and Betty Fredericks of California; her sister-in-law, Mary Sibilia; James Williams; and many nieces and nephews whom she cherished. Agnes was especially grateful to her nephew, Peter Sibilia, of Flemington, who lovingly provided devoted care to her in her final years. She was also thankful for the care she received from visiting caretakers and nurses, Rose and Farin, whom she enjoyed very much.
An outdoor memorial service is planned in the summer of 2021, in keeping with Agnes' wishes, to bring together family and friends in remembrance. Arrangements by Bruce C. VanArsdale Funeral Home, Somerville.
