Ellen Eilers Obituary
Ellen Eilers, an artist best known for her imaginative, stylized landscape paintings, died February 29th in Alexandria, MN.
Born on the family farm near Nelson, MN in 1917, Ellen Johanna Nelson graduated from Alexandria High School in 1935, and later St. Cloud Teacher's College. Her teaching career ranged from rural one-room country schoolhouses to Fay School, a private boarding school in Massachusetts. Ellen shared her love of art with her students, delighting in their young imaginations.
Ellen married Donald Eilers in 1946 (later divorced) and raised four children.
For over 50 years, Ellen enjoyed a career as a professional artist, displaying her artwork at art fairs, galleries and competitions across the Midwest. She also taught painting classes, mentoring many students who have in turn become artists.
In 2006, Ellen moved to Sioux Falls to live with her daughter and son-in-law, continuing to paint and exhibit her artwork.
A friend said of Ellen, "She was inspiring on many levels: her talent, humble nature and humor." Her artwork is a beautiful legacy, shared with so many people.
Funeral services are 11:00 on Thursday, March 10th, at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Nelson, MN with visitation before the service.

My husband and I have several of Ellen's paintings displayed in our home. We used to see her yearly at the Park Point Art Fair in Duluth, MN, and loved visiting with her as well a looking at all her paintings and also purchasing some very lovely ones. We loved her country style and beautiful colors. Our condolences to her family and our blessings.

My heartfelt sympathy to the Eilers family. I hope you will find comfort in God's promise at John 11:24,25. Knowing there is a future for those we have lost in death can be very reassuring during this difficult time.
