Yudelson, B.J.

Rochester: August 8, 2015, at age 76. Predeceased by her parents, Bert and Joe Heyman and daughter, Ruth Leah Yudelson. Survived by her husband, Julian; son, Larry; daughter, Miriam Katz; grandchildren, Yael, Ariella, Sam, Joey, Ruthie, Leah, Kinneret, Aviva, Calanit; sister, Margaret Cohen.

She loved family and friends, Judaism and the outdoors, writing and learning. B.J. was an active volunteer in many areas of the Rochester community. She shared her life's story in her book, "With an outstretched arm: A memoir of love and loss, family and faith"

B.J.'s service will be held TODAY 2 pm at Congregation Beth Sholom, 1161 Monroe Ave. Interment Britton Rd. Cemetery. Please consider donations to Congregation Beth Sholom or the Jewish Community Federation or a charity of your choice. How you do for others is your choice, that you do for others is B.J.'s wish. BJ died quietly at home. She absolutely forbade me to use the words fight, struggle or cancer in her obituary. She stated that she was living with cancer until the cancer could no longer let her live. Her legacy is her memoir, "With an outstretched arm". Avialable at Amazon. Julian as a husband of 47 years I find it almost impossible to understand your loss but I do know how I might feel because the loss of my wife would bring me extreme pain and that I can not comprehend how I would handle it. I did not know her but was the first recipient of the award for excellence in Hebrew in Ruths honor at Midrashah after Ruth was killed. I understand BJ did a lot of incredible things and has been an inspiration to volunteer with MADD. Solice to the family G-d bless

Deepest Sympathy to Julian and the entire family. B.J. and I worked closely together many years ago for Rochester Against Intoxicated Driving, and it was a great privilege to know her deep caring, creativity and energy.
Although our paths took us in different directions, I have often paused to think about how much she contributed to the community and how much I value having had the opportunity to work with B.J. and get to know her.

I had the privilege of working with B.J. in our leadership roles with R.A.I.D. I admired B.J.'s intelligence, character, energy and strength as we developed strategies, carried out activities and worked with legislators to prevent the tragedy of drunk driving in the Rochester community.

I feel so fortunate to have gotten to know BJ well in the last 2 years. I loved sharing her journey with her, and feel it a privilege to have helped with her book and other writing. I will miss her. She was such an integral part of our writing group and I am richer for having known her. I am holding all of your family in the light.
