Eddie SESSIONS Obituary

SESSIONS, Eddie Eddie Joe Sessions, 88, died March 20, 2014, at Tanner Medical Center in Carrollton, Georgia, after a long illness. He was born September 5, 1925, in Neshoba County, MS. His parents were Martin Luther and Ozie Schula Jones. Siblings, Reginal, Percy, Christine Sessions Skinner, and Donovan Sessions preceded him in death. He was married for 50 years to Shirley Jenkins Sessions. Their two children are Sabrina Sessions Hodges (Steve) of Charlotte, NC and Joel Sessions (Christine) of Douglasville, GA. Grandchildren are Olivia and Cooper Hodges. Nieces are Pamela Sessions Tyson (Patrick), of Atlanta, Laura Sessions Jones (Stanley) of Union, MS and Donna Sessions Cooper (Carter) and nephew, Reginal Sessions of Union, MS. After his service in WWII, Eddie returned to Mississippi. He had been drafted out of the eleventh grade, but completed his education, earning a B.S. in social studies and an M.A. in education at the University of Southern MS. After teaching for five years, he became a counselor in vocational rehabilitation in Jackson, MS where he was sought out during the Kennedy administration for positions in Health, Education, and Welfare from 1962-1967. A transfer took him to Atlanta as a health consultant in U.S. Public Health Service. In 1967 he became Deputy and Acting Health Administrator until his retirement in 1990. The family would like to thank the nursing staff of Tanner Medical Center where he was cared for on every floor throughout his illness. The outstanding service from the team on 4th Floor East was unprecedented. Special gratitude goes to Julie Reichart, who was the mainstay for him, laughing at his jokes, tending to all his needs and loving him. The family will receive friends at Almon Funeral Home on Sunday from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. Funeral service will be Monday, March 24 at 10 a.m. from the chapel of Almon Funeral Home. Interment will be in Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia at 1 p.m with military honors. Messages of condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.almonfuneralhome. com.
