PONDER-MAXIE, Gwendolyn Gwendolyn Ponder Maxie Mrs. Gwendolyn Ponder Maxie formerly of South Atlanta passed away on Friday, October 5, 2012 in San Diego California. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 13, 2012, 2 p.m. at Anderson Ragsdale Funeral Home in San Diego. She was a 1957 graduate of Price High School and graduated from Spelman College in 1961. Gwen was an accomplished Mathematics Educator in California until her demise. She was married to Dr. Earl Maxie who preceded her in death. She leaves to cherish her memory 4 children, Maria Whitfield, Mia Bieniemy, Earl and Michael Maxie; siblings, Annell Ponder, Julia Johnson (Marion), Mildred Coats (Zeke), James Ponder (Louise), and A. Gwen spent one semester at North Central College (Illinois) when she was at Spelman, and my Mom (Rosalie Bargmann) was her roommate. She always had fond memories of their semester together. I'm not sure if they kept in touch. I'm attaching a newspaper article that I found in my Mom's things when she passed away.
