Family-Placed Death Notice

Dorothy Ross Bowie Ross, died on Saturday, January 24, 2004. The funeral will be held at the Lutheran Church of the Atonement, 1875 Simpon Rd., N.W., Atlanta on Wednesday, January 28, 2004 at 11 a.m. Rev. Lamont Anthony Wells, presiding. The body will lie in state beginning at 10 a.m. Interment, Lincoln Cemetery. Family and friends are asked to assemble at the church at 10:45 a.m. Dorothy was born on November 18, 1929 in Adairsville, GA. The youngest of three children born to Isaac and Esther Tuggle Ross. Shortly after her birth the family moved to Calhoun, GA, the town she called home. After the death of her mother, she moved to Chattanooga and later to Atlanta. She received a full scholarship to attend Spellman College, graduating in 1951 as Valedictorian with a Major in Mathematics. She received a Masters degree in Mathematics from Atlanta University. She was employed has a teacher of mathematics in the Atlanta Public School System at Turner High School and later taught mathematics at Tuskegee and Clark Atlanta Universities. Surviviors include her husband, Julius Bowie; sons, Michael (Verdelle Bowie) and Jeffrey (Melinda Moseley); daughter-in-law, Sharon Bowie; grandchildren, Julius Bowie Jr., Christopher Bowie and Samantha Bowie; sister-in-law, Lillian Ross; nephews, Kevin Ross and Kendrick Ross; nieces, Wynell Davis, Romaine Cole, and Delorian Welch, and a host of other relatives and friends. Son, Julius (Randy) Bowie, MD preceded her in death. In lieu of flowers, the family request, that contributions be made to the Lutheran Church of the Atonement Capital Improvement Fund, P.O.
