Martha Turner

1931 - 2018

Martha H. Turner, 86, died Thursday, March 29, 2018 at her home in Cumming, GA.

Martha was born October 15, 1931 to Hugh and Edweina Hall in Gadsden, AL. She was an identical twin and one of four children. Martha met the love of her life, James, and they were married in Gadsden, AL in 1950.

Martha helped support James while he worked on his Bachelor's and Master's degrees from the University of Alabama. As James was in the military, he and Martha also lived in various cities

before moving with their four young children to Sandy Springs, Georgia in 1964. Martha was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend.

While raising four young children, Martha returned to her own education, graduating from Oglethorpe University Magna Cum Laude with double degrees in History and English. Martha then worked as the office manager of Cahners Publishing Co. for over 17 years until

her retirement.

Martha and James were both very active at Sandy Springs United Methodist Church for over five decades. They loved traveling the world, hiking, and spending time with friends. However, Martha's favorite times in life were spent painting, journaling, gardening, and with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Martha is survived by her children, Cathy (Mike) Herb, Leland Turner, Carol (Gary) Vey, and Lisa (John) Lassig; her nine grandchildren, Sarah (Jeremy) Farley, Nicholas Winzurk, Amanda (Bryan) Cunningham, Amelia (Robert) Ward, Molly (Nic) Cannington, Melissa (Sam) Bailey, David Turner, Kellie Lassig, and Sam Turner; her two great-grandchildren, Nolan and Turner Cannington; and her brother Jerry Hall. In addition to her parents, Martha was preceded in death by her loving husband of 66 years, James Turner, Jr.; brother Hugh Alan Hall, and her identical twin, Mary Henderson.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 7, 2018 at Sandy Springs Chapel at 2:30 pm. The family will receive friends at 1:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Sandy Springs United Methodist Church or any charity of choice.
