Missing you Mama! Here´s your second Granddaughter, Barbara, who´s growing up fast. 13 going on 30 for sure, and whip-smart, too. We know you´re singing with the Angels and likely reminding Daddy what he should and shouldn´t be eating. We keep you ever-present in our hearts and minds. Love always, Angela

Remembering my Mom, Mignon today. Hard to believe it has been 16 years since she left us. I have faith that she knows we are all doing well and that her name can still be heard in the conversations of her Spelman sisters, friends, and family to this very day. We miss her and my father, Fred dearly. Rest well.

I offer my belated condolences to the family of Mignon. I taught with Mignon in the Palatine IL School District. I remember her as a consummate professional who was well-respected by students and appreciated by her colleagues for her passion for teaching and well-honed classroom management skills. While soft spoken, she was a delightful person and classy lady! Since I was new to the teaching profession, Mignon kindly offered me valuable advice and support which I will long remember. It was an honor to work with her and to know her.

Missing my Mom, Mignon today, better known as Mommy, on the very first Juneteenth federal holiday. How amazing that this would be established on the day she left us. I can just imagine her fussing at all the folks in Washington DC, who she would deem in need of her correction, on all the things they are doing wrong. That might get a few things straightened out for sure. I wish she was here to have met her newest granddaughter, Barbara, who is now 10 years old. She would be happy to know, however, that we are all healthy and doing well after an unimaginable year of COVID 19. I remain confident that she is looking down on us and still guiding our way. Blessing to you Mommy. We love and miss you very much. Camille

On the 11th anniversary of my mother's transition, I remember her fondly for the fierce passion she had for God, her family, Spelman College, and helping others. She and my father Frederick G. Lewis are the reason I and my sisters are the people we are today and have an unending flow of blessings. I am grateful for family each and every day. I have faith that you are here with us as we walk this difficult path here on earth, and divinely guide our actions and words. I still catch myself saying the exact words you spoke to us as kids when I am counseling students and families in my office. "Did I just say that?" I know it's you speaking through me. I hope you and Daddy are having the time of your heavenly lives. That thought makes me happy. With love and appreciation....your eldest, Camille

I am remembering my Mother today, Thursday, October 20, 2011 on what would have been another joyous birthday - her 82nd. As a new mother it has become clearer to me how valuable she was to me as my Mother, as my role model and as a strong, decisive and humorous leader to me. I am still in disbelief that she is not here with her family and friends; and, that she is not here to hug and kiss her new Granddaughter who looks just like her 1st thing in the morning :-)! I miss you Mommy and I'll always love you...I just pray I will be half the Mother to my little Barbara that you were to me. One day I know we'll see each other again and we can pick up our latest debate where we left off.

I met my "New Cousin" Mignon in 2002. I was sorrowful to hear of her "Homegoing to be with the Lord". We crammed a lot of "getting to know each other" within 6 years. My fondest memory of Mignon was when I met her in Dallas and drove her to Pelham, Texas so that she could see the land that our Texas ancesters roamed. She was so happy and thrilled with that experience. Mignon made me feel smart and I was encouraged by her. I will never forget Mignon and she will forever live in my heart. Camille, Adrienne, Diana and Angela, please keep in touch. This is what Mignon would want.

Dear Lewis Family:
We have never met personally, but your mother was my teacher in Junior High school many years ago when she taught in California. I have fond memories of Mrs. Lewis, she was such a good teacher. I was sorry to hear of her passing, but wanted you to know how she impacted my life as a teacher. I am thankful the Lord allowed me to be one of her students. Her kindness and teaching skills prepared me in those formative years of my life. I pray that the Lord will comfort your hearts at the loss of your beloved mother.
Sincerely,
Mignon with Bill & Beverly

I was shocked to hear about my 'Dear friend and other Mother' as she called herself. Mignon had just attended my wedding in Daytona Beach, Florida just 2 1/ 2 weeks
prior and was the 1st person to book her flight last November when
I told her I was getting married and
had set the date. Mignon was that
welcoming voice when you needed to talk, to be reassured, to be understood, to share a laugh or a thought. I will always remember with
smiles and grateful tears her presence in my life. Thank you 'My
Dear friend & other Mother' for your
encouragement, support, love & advice. I will miss you dearly. My deepest sympathy to her daughters Camille, Diana, Adrienne & Angela.
I share your sorrow and loss.
I will miss her too.

While in Illinois, Mignon was well known throught the North Shore for her commitment to the community and her activism. May God bless and keep her family during this trying time.

The news of Mignon's passing is still difficult to fully comprehend; for the passing of this special lady and my friend is a profound loss.
I feel blessed to have been included in her circle of friends, and I will always be grateful to have known her. I have never known anyone more kind, generous, and loyal than Mignon Lewis. She always appealed to my better angels, and she could somehow manage to make me laugh even when I didn't feel like it. You could always be assured that your innermost thoughts and feelings were safe with her,
My sincere condolences to Camille, Diana, Adrienne and Angela. Mignon has left a void that will be difficult to fill, but we can take comfort in knowing that she is at peace, and now making music with the choir of angels,
Love and Prayers,

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.
Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."
It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man."
God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.
When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.
I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.
There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.
If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.
So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.
And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

Mignon Lewis added so much to First Congregational in her 19 years of membership. She was truly a pillar of the church. She had high standards and was highly principled. To use what is, regrettably, an old-fashioned word, she was refined. A beautiful, intelligent, constructive woman who always exhorted us to do better. We have lost a gem.

God broke the mold when he made Mignon. From the first day I went to work at First Church as the accountant, Mignon's welcoming spirit and energetic interest in the Church's financial health encouraged me. She was everything a lady should be, and I will miss her more than I can say.
Please accept my condolences.

Mignon Lewis was an exceptional individual in that she possessed a considerable degree of courage and veracity for what she was passionate about. She loved her four daughters, Spelman College, and First Church. As a matter of fact, one of the last conversations we had during our Father's Day choir rehearsal was about one of her daughters. She will be noticeably missed. May GOD bless and keep you all during this time of loss.

To the Lewis Family:
Meeting Mignon for the first time was like knowing her for a lifetime! She knew no strangers!!! From the first time my husband and I met her (at a Spelman fundraiser) until our last conversation, she was always encouraging and upbeat, making sure that everything was right and in order!

Your family has been exposed to the best!!! Mignon loved her family and never let us forget it!! She was faithful to you and to her Spelman and First Church families as well!!
Rest now, Mignon! Your work is done here on earth and you left us all the better for it!
With much love and blessings to you!
