Ann FOSSETT Obituary

FOSSETT, Ann Clement Ann Clement Fossett of Decatur, Georgia passed away on April 18th after a long, hard battle with pancreatic cancer. She was born on July 3, 1947 in Danville, Virginia and spent her childhood years in Rome, Georgia. During her teen years, she moved with her family around the Southeast as her father, an executive with Sears, opened new stores during that company's expansion era. Ann spent her senior year in high school in Selma, Alabama, where the family witnessed the birth of the civil rights movement and the historical march across the Edmund Pettus Bridge to Montgomery, Alabama. The following year, Ann crossed the same bridge on her way to Auburn University, where she received her B.S. in Home Economics. She was a charter member of the Epsilon Zeta chapter of Alpha Chi Omega sorority. In the summer of 1969, Ann was hired by Delta Airlines to become a "stewardess" and it was during that summer that she met the most remarkable group of young women who would share a 32-year career during the golden age of airline travel. They would travel the world together and also share each other's life passages a true blessing. One of Ann's most memorable flights was as a crew-member on flight 15 from Frankfurt, Germany to Atlanta on 9/11. The flight was stranded in Gander, Newfoundland for 5 days with the passengers staying in Lewisport. The passengers were so overcome with the kindness of the people of Lewisport, they set up a scholarship fund for the local children to further their education. This story has been featured on television documentaries including with Tom Brokaw. Upon her retirement from Delta, Ann and her husband Larry found the time to continue traveling and to spend summers at the home they built in the picturesque village of Wayne, Maine. One of Ann's proudest achievements was putting together a committee of summer people and year round Wayners to coordinate a series of Home and Garden Tours to showcase the village and raise needed funds for the town's church and library. These popular tours continue today and people attend from around the state. Ann also was a passionate folk artist. Her barnyard animals, painted on recycled antique ceiling tins were in high demand. She displayed her work in galleries and was also an exhibitor at the Trinity School's prestigious Spotlight on Art Fundraiser each February. Ann is predeceased by her father, Allen B. Clement and her mother, Priscilla L. Clement both of Charleston, S.C. She is also survived by her brother, Allen Clement and sister, Ginger Green (Buff) and niece Virginia (Luis). She also leaves behind her loving and supportive husband of 32 years, Larry and her three (step) children Skip Fossett (Jill), Sandy Fossett O'Brien and Pamela Fossett Wilson. She also leaves behind five grandchildren Georgia Wilson, Murrough O'Brien, Connery O'Brien, Marley Fossett and Lindsey Fossett. A memorial service will be held at Decatur Presbyterian Church Friday, April 22nd at 2:00 p.m. officiated by Dr. Todd Speed. A reception will be held immediately following in the Fellowship Hall. In lieu of flowers, those wishing, may make a donation in Ann's name to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network Pancan at www.pancan.org or toll free at 1-877-272-6226.

She was an incredible person. Everyone loved to work with her at Delta. Whenever I saw I was working with her I would smile. Her Delta family will miss her almost as much as her family.
