John HUSS Obituary

HUSS, Jr., John J. John J. Huss, Jr. died on October 23, 2017 in New York, NY at the conclusion of a family vacation. He was 71 years old. John was a leader and advocate for progress in the Presbytery of Greater Atlanta who served for a decade as the Clerk of Session of Central Presbyterian Church. Before dedicating his time to convening his beloved Issues in Theology Sunday School class, he was an entrepreneur who built and sold a successful employee benefits business. John's childhood in St. Paul, MN and college years in Washington, D.C., where he graduated from Catholic University of America, left him with a lifelong passion for philosophy and theology that included a five-year stint as a Paulist seminarian. John had a gift for poetry and for asking difficult questions, and he always read his books with pencil and index card in hand. He had a passion for Blues, Jazz, and Gospel music, building a collection of over 5000 vinyl records. John will be remembered as a soft touch, a good tipper, and a bleeding-heart liberal, always ready to spare five dollars or five minutes of his time for anyone who asked. John is survived by his wife, Anne; his son, John III and his wife Min; his daughter, Anne Margaret, her husband Siddharth, and son, Arav Manay; and his brother, William and his wife, Mieko. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, Nov. 5 at 2 pm at Central Presbyterian Church, 201 Washington St., SW. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Central Outreach & Advocacy Center.
