Sister Mary Beth Read, OSU, a beloved member of the Ursulines of the Roman Union Eastern Province USA for 60 years, died peacefully on March 9 at Andrus on Hudson Nursing Home.

Sister MaryBeth was born in Philadelphia, PA on January 8, 1946, the daughter of John Read and Mary Loughran. She was an alumna of Ursuline Academy, Wilmington, Delaware and earned a bachelor's degree in English from Catholic University of America and a master's degree in Religious Education from Fordham University. In addition, she received certification in Educational Administration from Fordham/Manhattan College. Sister MaryBeth's ministry in the South Bronx impelled her to participate in the New York Archdiocese Spanish language program which offered her the opportunity to study in Puerto Rico.

She began her ministry in education at St. Jerome's parochial school and continued as a teacher and then an administrator at the Academy of Mount St. Ursula, Bronx, New York. Sister Mary Beth also served in parish ministry at St. Jerome's parish and later at St. John the Baptist parish in Yonker, New York. She brought her deep faith and compassionate care to these ministries.

Sister MaryBeth entered the Ursuline community in 1966 served as a provincial councilor and on several committees as well as trustee of Ursuline Academy. She will be remembered by her Ursulines Sisters, family and many friends for her kindness and gentle presence.

She is survived by her brother James and sister-in-law Roberta and sister-in-law Paula, her brother Robert and several loving and caring nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother John.

Visitation for Sister MaryBeth will be Saturday, March 14th 9:15am – 10:15am followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am at the Ursuline Province Center, 1338 North Avenue, New Rochelle, New York.
