Walter Strauss Obituary
A funeral service was held 4:30 PM Thursday, July 26, 2018 at Arlington Memorial Park. Arrangements were handled by Dressler's Jewish Funeral Care.
He is is survived by his devoted wife of 64 years, Estelle; his two daughters Michelle and Sandra; his two grandchildren, Brandon and Mitchell; and his brother Henry.

I guess in some way I basically owe my life to Walter. Walter helped my mother and father escape from Nazi Germany and Europe. I met Walter at work where I performed as a general contractor and remodeler at Park Place on Peachtree. I was told from Walter that the escape story of my parents was truly an amazing tale and could really be made into a movie. he said we have to sit down and have this talk, it never happened. My parents (French and German origin) who are gone now, also never discussed the trails and tribulations that they went through. My dad who spoke perfect English , was also a translator in the trails in Nuremberg . The amazing story of the escape may never be told now at this point but of course i as one of the children are very grateful for the help provided to my family by Walter .

Walter's store was one of the highlights of my time at Georgia State. I would window shop twice daily, and bought all my Kangol hats there.

R. I. P. Uncle Walt. My first time going g to Walter's was in late 90s. He would show you respect and you respected him. It was unbelievable how many colors of shoes he had. Besides shoes all types of hats, clothing etc. As soon as you open the door a worker always greets you. As a GA State student it was a ritual to stop at Walter's and shop. I'm thankful to have crossed paths with this Man. To the family rejoice bc his spirit lives on and his seed has been sowed into a solid foundation! Luv

Walter Strauss a legend. If not for Walter, I may not be here in Atlanta as a first generation American.
He helped my parents, German and French , immigrate from Europe to Atlanta.

My brothers, Robert and Calvin, loved Walter's! Any job was geared toward buying Converse Allstars at Walter's! We never knew the back story, but are proud to know that all were treated equally. Prayers for Mr. Walter Strauss' family.

My sincere condolences go out to the Strauss family. When my children were growing up as teenagers, they always wanted me to take them downtown to Walters, the only place that carried the sneakers they wanted.
Walter's life is a wonderful testimony to a caring life and shows how good people can be. Rest in peace.

I remember shopping in Walters numerous times when I played basketball at GSU. I was always treated with respect and he made sure we were accommodated each and every time. Thanks for being a strong presence in the community and keeping your doors open for so many years.
