Owen Murry Sr.

AUGUSTA, Ga. - Jim Murry, beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away Friday, June 21, 2013 after a valiant battle with cancer. He fiercely loved his wife, his 5 children and his 8 grandchildren. He also loved the game of tennis and all the many friends he made throughout the years he played. He was a veteran of WWII.
He is survived by his loving wife, Ms. Betty Lauthner Murry, his children, Marie Smith of Dublin, GA, Dr. Melinda Moretz of Spartanburg, SC, Susan Gayheart of Savannah, GA, Beth Chadwick of Atlanta, GA, and Owen J. Murry, Jr. of Anderson, SC, three son's-in-law, Dr. Richard E. Moretz, Joe Gayheart and Mike Pollitt, one daughter-in-law, Cathy Murry, and grandchildren, Rose Smith, Shanna Smith, Eric Moretz, Hayley Moretz, Austin Chadwick, Whitney Hamm, Hannah Murry, and Patrick Murry, and great grandson Matthew Hamm.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, June 24th at 1:00 PM EDT at St. John United Methodist Church at 736 Greene Street, Augusta, GA 30901 with the Reverend Gary DeMore officiating. Family will receive visitors 1 hour prior to service in the Narthex. A reception will follow immediately after. The family wishes to acknowledge and thank the amazing staff of 10 West at University Hospital in Augusta who provided extraordinary and devoted care during his many stays.
