Marlis Schumacher Obituary

After a 15-month battle with lung cancer, Marlis (Hampson) Schumacher died peacefully at home in Yorkville, Illinois, surrounded by her loving family, on Saturday, May 9, 2015. She was 67. Marlis is survived by her husband, Warren (Shoes), sons Shawn (Tara) Schumacher of Yorkville, Illinois, David (Amber) Schumacher of Scottsdale, Arizona, and Dustin (Amanda) Schumacher of Yorkville, Illinois; grandchildren, Matt, Will, Kate, DJ, Michael, and Addie: and nieces, Gina (Gregg) Dockins of LaSalle, Illinois and Julia Schram (Clayton Toller) of Hudson, Florida. She is preceded in death by her parents Ellis and Marjorie Hampson of Yorkville, Illinois and her sister Patsy Chase of Hudson, Florida. Marlis was born on May 14, 1947 in Joliet, Illinois and graduated from Yorkville High School in 1965. Marlis and Shoes were married on January 8, 1966 at the Plattville Methodist Church in Plattville, Illinois and spent their first year of marriage at Ramstein U.S. Air Force Base in Germany. Marlis and Shoes raised their boys in Yorkville, and Marlis was active in many community endeavors including the Yorkville Jaycettes, YHS Sports Boosters, and the Yorkville United Methodist Church. Marlis earned her degree as a Registered Nurse from Waubonsee Community College in 1989 and spent her professional years as a nurse in behavioral health at Provena Mercy Center Hospital in Aurora. After retirement in 2007, Marlis and Shoes spent their time between their homes in Yorkville and Scottsdale, Arizona. Marlis was a devoted, caring and generous wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend who was a source of strength for all who knew her. Until her recent illness, she lived a very full, active life and was an avid world traveler. She traveled extensively with family and friends throughout the United States, visited six of the seven continents, and spent time in more than 50 countries throughout the world. Marlis enjoyed writing in her journal daily, and also never missed an opportunity to write thoughtful notes and cards to family and friends, commemorating every holiday and special event. Throughout her life, Marlis enjoyed playing bingo, slot machines, and video poker at various casinos throughout the U.S. and in several nations. She also spent countless hours in her retirement, designing and creating scrapbooks for each of her six grandchildren, chronicling their lives from their births to present day. Marlis' family would especially like to thank her Guardian Angels-Judie, Dee and Di-for the love and support they have provided throughout this journey. Marlis' life will be celebrated with a wake on Tuesday, May 12, from 4:00 - 8:00 pm at the Larson-Nelson Funeral Home, 1617 North Bridge Street in Yorkville, Illinois and with a Funeral Service on Wednesday, May 13 at 10:00 am at the Larson-Nelson Funeral Home in Yorkville, Illinois. To the Schumacher Boys, We are so sorry for the loss of your Mom and wife. I have lots of fun memories as little girls growing up. I always loved going to the farm in Platteville to play with the kittens and going to the little store there to get candy and treats. I'm so glad we reconnected in later years and got to visit numerous times in AZ. and your coming to CO. Rest in peace dear cousin. Will miss you a lot. Linda Hutchinson

Keeping your family in prayer. Marlis was a great nurse I had the privilege of working with at PMMC. Loved her sense of humor. Her smile could brighten any day. I knew her to be a loyal, devoted friend who stayed connected to so many after she retired. Be at peace, Marlis. You fought the good fight.
