Time flies by too quickly for us all but I am certain to his children, grandchildren and especially his beautiful wife Colleen it seems like yesterday when Philip left them. I for one am surprised it´s almost a year since his passing. Recalling how much he loved sunsets I made a conscious effort to seek the sun setting and bask in its beauty! Next sunset the Aceves Family will raise a glass of wine in your honor.

To the Ruddy family,
It's hard to believe that Philip has been gone a year already. We spoke on the phone just a short time before his passing and he was still extremely kind and generous with his words to me. I've been an employee of Old Second for over 30 yrs now and had known Philip for many of those years. He was always a pleasure to speak with and will be missed for a long time. My thoughts are with all those that loved him and those that he loved as well.
Kindest regards,
Shirley Cantrell

We only knew Philip and Colleen since December and are always enjoyed Philips interesting anecdotals and his sneaky sense of humor. We are grateful we got to know the little bit we did. Our hearts break for Colleen and the entire family.

This world feels a little bit emptier today, for the passing of this good gentleman, scholar, connoisseur of fine wine, food, sunsets, beaches and flowers; a man who knew how to thoroughly enjoy and appreciate every stage of his life. My deepest condolences go out to his entire family- especially to Colleen, Erin and Philip Jr. What a gift he was to us all!
I'll always remember him standing in your Aurora kitchen, brandishing some kitchen utensil in one hand, wine glass in the other, as he described the delicious, aromatic recipe he'd just prepared for our elegant, candlelit dinner, with Colleen bustling in the background, making sure the table was perfectly set and ready for the evening's entertainment. Oh, how that man could cook!
I'm so grateful for his presence in our lives.

Phil took over our office space in the old Aurora National Bank building when we moved our practice to the west side of Aurora. I always felt we had left the place in good hands. Knew Phil for many years. He never forgot a face and always called you by name. Just a kind, caring man. He will truly be missed. My deepest condolences to Colleen, Erin and Phil, Jr.

When I think of saluting the sunset on Lake Michigan, Phil pops to mind. Meeting Phil and Colleen at the Townline Beach many years ago with their glass of wine and joyous salute to the sun, I knew they were kindred spirits. And, from then on, whenever we would meet, it was a happy reunion. Who could be more optimistic, upbeat, fun loving, kind, interesting than Phil? We feel lucky and honored to have him as a friend and neighbor. He leaves us with fond memories and will be forever in our hearts as we salute the beautiful sunsets in Union Pier. Peace....

I especially remember Phil during my high school years: showing up in his red Marmion jacket and his dad's yellow & white Buick Roadmaster...always smiling, enthusiastic, and "game" for new adventures. And I am smiling as I write this, thinking about the times I saw him over the years...never a bad comment about anybody, and always with that wondrous smile. To Colleen, Erin, and Phillip: rest assured that all the love you gave him is still with him, and all the love he gave you stays with you. He is set, and so are you.

I was Phil's law partner for 30 years. We had our ups and downs but I will remember him most for his help with the adoption of our daughter. I know he had a special fondness for Maisie and will never forget that morning in court. When Maisie saw him she rushed over to him and he gathered her up in his arms. It was a special moment. She, too, had a special fondness for Phil and for that memory I will always remember him and be grateful.

As a young lawyer in Kane County, I recall how nice it was to work with a veteran lawyer that didn't take advantage of my lack of knowledge . Phil was a real pleasure to work with on cases. I think about him often. He will be missed. Sorry for your loss.

I could write a book about Phil. Our parents associated and we grew up together. We went to nursery school, cruised Downer Place, drank beer in my kitchen, went to Walt Bothe's lake house in Wisconsin, worked at Yellowstone Nat. Park, and he was my Best Man. We had a lot of great memories to last a lifetime. My condolences to Colleen and the whole Ruddy family.

My condolences to Colleen, Philip, Erin, John and the entire family. Philip was the best boss ever and I have wonderful memories working at the law firm. Philip and Erin, you were his pride and joy. I remember how he lighted up when he spoke about you. Colleen, his love for you was immense. He gave me tickets to a Friday Cubs game that led to me meeting and dating a Major League Baseball player. Bet you didnt know that. He gave me a gift that led to beautiful memories of a lifetime. He is now forever in your hearts and only a beautiful memory away. Truly one of a kind. Im saddened by his passing and wish I would have stayed in touch. May he Rest in Paradise.
