Raymond John POMPEY Obituary

LONGTIME RESIDENT AND BUSINESS OWNER IN THE ANTELOPE VALLEY PASSES AWAY AT 85
Raymond J. Pompey, longtime resident and business owner in the Antelope Valley passed away peacefully on Jan 7, 2021.
Ray was born in Los Angeles in 1935 and moved to Lancaster when he was 16 years old. He graduated from Antelope Valley High School in 1953 and went on to finish 2 years of business studies at Antelope Valley Community College.
In 1965 Ray and his wife Donna founded "All" Glass Company, which today is a thriving family-owned corporation known across the Antelope Valley as "All" Glass & Plastics, Inc. Ray had always been proud of its 56 year history being a "Family Owned" business.
As a businessman in his hometown, he enjoyed working with the Chamber of Commerce to promote more involvement with businesses in the community. Ray volunteered tirelessly with the Emblem Club's taco booth and worked closely with the design of their new taco trailer at the Antelope Valley Fairgrounds. Ray was also instrumental with the Soroptimist's in developing the "Sky Parade" hot air balloon festival. Since 1997, he has been a member of the Benevolent & Protective Order of the Elks and has led the Lancaster Lodge as Exalted Ruler, State Vice-President, and District Deputy. While in office he and his chairman established the "Dictionary Project", targeting every 3rd grader in the Antelope Valley to possess their very own dictionary. To purchase the dictionary's they created a "Noodle Night" fundraiser at the Lancaster Lodge. On Monday nights they served Ray's Red Spaghetti and Beef Stroganoff to a very willing crowd. Over the next 10 years Ray personally delivered over 35,000 dictionaries to 3rd grade students locally and as far away as Las Vegas and Tecopa Hot Springs in Death Valley. Ray later became a board member of the newly developing Desert Sands Charter School and recognized the importance of children in the Antelope Valley (and everywhere) to have equal opportunities of obtaining a solid education. He felt privileged to attend the graduation ceremonies each year and was always proud of the student's accomplishments.
Donna preceded Ray in death in 1973 and managed to raise their four children on his own Cindy, Lance, Bari & Mark. In 1980 Ray remarried to Carolyn Setzer and with her 3 children, Diana, Patricia, and David he became a father to a huge amily. He was blessed with enormous love from all of his family, along with 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Ray enjoyed camping, fishing and traveling in his little trailer with his wife Lyn and all their kids.
He will be missed by all the lives he touched.

I went to high school with Ray. I am one year older and graduated in 1952. We would run into each other at reunions, civic events, the Fair, and times when we would purchase from AV Glass.
Our condolences to Lyn and the family.

We have lost one of our best friends. So many great memories spending time with Ray and Lyn over the years and Preston had the greatest honor of standing up as Rays best man at he and Lyn’s 25th Anniversary renewal of vows. Ray was one of the best and is greatly missed by all who knew him. His obituary says it all. RIP Ray. You lived life on your terms right up to the end. ❤

Ray Pompey was larger than life. He loved his family with all of his heart. Went out of his way to do whatever he could to help you if you needed it. Generous and kind. So much fun to be around. He and his wife, Donna gave me my first job at "All Glass & Paint." I loved working with the family. His father Fred was there to make sure everyone was doing what they should. I have so many memories of him but, for me it was his big heart and kindness. I will miss you Ray. Sleep well and we will see you again. All my love to Lyn, Cindy, Lance, Bari, Mark, Diana, Pat, David and their families.
