Ethel Sullivan Obituary

Ethel Fisher Sullivan Ethel Fisher Sullivan of Phoenix, passed away November 26th at the age of 93. She was born June 4, 1912 in DeQueen, Arkansas and moved to Phoenix at the age of two. She was a graduate of Madison Elementary, Phoenix Union High School and her beloved University of Arizona. While attending the U of A, she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma and was President of the Women's Athletic Association. She was named Best Sportswoman in 1933 having lettered in four sports. Upon graduation, she taught physical education at both her high school and college alma maters. In 1936, she married John L. Sullivan, then Attorney General of Arizona. Ethel served on the Board of Directors of the Red Cross, the Jane Wayland Home, the Friendly House and the United Fund. She was Grand Regent of the Catholic Daughters of America and a national officer of Kappa Kappa Gamma Alumnae. She was a member of St. Joseph's Hospital Auxiliary, League of Women Voters, VFW and DAV Auxiliaries, Arizona Country Club and Phoenix Little Theater. Ethel was honored with the University of Arizona's 75th Anniversary Medallion of Merit and the Alumni Service Award. Ethel's family owned and operated Fisher Contracting Company, United Materials and Superior Equipment Companies. After serving in various executive positions, she was Chairman of the Board at the time she retired. She is survived by her devoted sister, Sue Couturier, her husband Tom and their sons Greg and Ron. Grandchildren include Dede (David) Areghini, John (Jackie) Sullivan, Kevin Sullivan, Mark (Lynn) Sullivan, Susan (Fred) Kaufman and Michael (Rosemary) Beale. A memorial service including a rosary is planned for Monday, December 5th at 3:00 P.M., at A.L. Moore Grimshaw Bethany Chapel, 710 West Bethany Home Road. Interment will be at Greenwood Memory Lawn Cemetery Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, those who wish to contribute to her memory may do so by donating to the Ottus F. Fisher Scholarship Endowment at The University of Arizona. Checks payable to The University of Arizona, with a memo to this scholarship, may be sent to UA Office of Scholarship Development, 1111 N.
