Adelaida's Obituary

Adelaida Bautista Menes, age 83, passed away, surrounded by friends and family on Monday September 29, 2025 at The Manor at Lake Jackson in Sebring Florida. She was born on January 20, 1942 under a tree while evading wartime patrols in rural Phillipines. She was the third child of Aquilino and Feliciana Bautista behind Rogelio, Mario and then her younger brother Nestor. After graduating high school at Northern Luzon Academy in 1958 and continued her education at Phillipine Union College where she earned her nursing degree in 1963. Aida met the love of her life, Cenon Menes and married him on May 24, 1966. They moved to New York to pursue the American Dream and soon transferred to Euclid, OH where their first child, Michael, was born. Cenon’s training brought them to Chicago where he finished his anesthesiology residency and they had their second child, Mark. Opportunity ultimately brought them to Hinsdale, IL where their third child Cynthia was born and subsequently spent the next 50 years growing their roots in their community and the Hinsdale Fil-Am Seventh Day Adventist church. In July 2022, they made the big move to Avon Park, Florida where Cenon, their daughter Cindy along with family and friends dutifully took care of Aida as she battled Alzheimers and dementia for the next three years. Aida was a soft spoken person who loved to laugh, loved to cook and loved to be around friends and family. She was deeply religious and helped to pioneer the Hinsdale Fil-Am SDA church where she was active in every segment. She loved to travel, go camping and hiking, attending reunions, lunch with her “Joy Luck Club” and even humored her family by going skiing. She is survived by her children Mike, Mark and Cindy and their families: Mike - Jeanelle and children Mandy (Mitch Weibert and daughter Parker June), Branden and Catie; Mark - Elizabeth and children Gabrielle Javin and Lily. She will be missed by her church, friends and community but mostly by her family.
