Adeline's Obituary

With great sadness, the family of the late Adeline Steranko, beloved wife of Ron Steranko of Crystal Lake, SK, announce her passing on February 10, 2025, at the age of 75 years.Adeline Marie (nee Popowich) Steranko was born in Yorkton, SK, to William and Mary (Drabiuk) Popowich on July 4,1949. She grew up on the family farm north of Springside, SK, where she had a sound upbringing enjoying wide open spaces of country life. This is where she learned her excellent cooking and gardening skills. These responsibilities were the building blocks for countless attributes she had in her life. Adeline attended elementary school in Springside and high school in Yorkton, SK. After high school, she went to Marvel Beauty College in Regina. It was there that she became a gifted professional hairstylist. Her skills were noticed and therefore, she had many clients such as the wives of the Saskatchewan Roughriders. She also styled many prominent business people in Regina. Adeline met her soul mate, Ron, while they were part of the bridal party for her brother and sister-in-law’s wedding. After a short courtship, they were married on August 29, 1970, just a little more than a year later. Ron and Adeline lived in Regina while he finished university and then moved to Norquay, SK, where Ron took a teaching position. While living there, they had three children, Tanya, Peter, and Tara. In 1977, they moved to a farm north of Stenen, so that the children could enjoy farm life. It was a place where Adeline could have massive gardens and transform the yard into a park, set with flowers, perennial beds, trees, and shrubs to be admired by those all around. In 1990, a cottage was built at Crystal Lake, SK. Here too, Adeline turned the slopes around the cottage into an attraction because of the hundreds of flowers and beautiful hydrangeas she grew. Besides the gardens, yard work, and raising the children and taking them to all of their activities, Adeline provided countless haircuts and perms for people and family in the community. For many years, she travelled to Canora and worked at a dress shop and sports store. She also had a knack for remaining calm under pressure as she scheduled very busy golf days during her time in the pro-shop at the Crystal Lake Golf Course. Adeline was a member of the St. Demetrius Orthodox Church and ladies club in Stenen, SK, and would ensure she had multiple tasty dishes for the meals the congregation would enjoy after services. Adeline was a very gifted lady and would often surprise her family with newly discovered talents. One year she decided to try painting, claiming that Ron never had time to do a painting for her. She got out his painting supplies and began to paint incredible pieces of art.Besides the many accomplishments and talents she had, Adeline was always very personable, kind, and caring. These qualities made it easy for her to make friends with. While sustaining these friendships, no one ever knew how much pain she was in or the heart failure she dealt with on a daily basis. She touched many, many lives in the surrounding communities and beyond. She will be deeply missed by her beloved family and all who knew her.Adeline was predeceased by her father, William Popowich; and her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Pete and Lillian (Koroluk) Steranko. She leaves to mourn her passing and will always be remembered by her loving husband, Ron; her children, Tanya (Kevin) Gullion, Peter Steranko, and Tara (Carey) Novak; her grandsons, Cameron and Matthew Gullion; her mother, Mary (Drabiuk) Popowich; her brother, Don (Joan) Popowich and their sons, Ron, Darrel, Michael and their families; and brother-in-law, Steven Steranko; along with many cousins, extended family, and friends. The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to Dr. Dehghani, his nurse Erin, and the receptionist Alisha, at the Heart Function Clinic in Regina for the years of care. They would also like to thank all of the family and friends who prayed for her and visited with her, often lifting her spirits. A Private Family Service was held at the Chapel of Leson's Funeral Home, Canora, SK, with Rev. Fr. Michael Faryna officiating. Responses were lead by the parish cantor, Zennovia Duch. Interment followed in Yorkton Memorial Gardens, Yorkton, SK. Those wishing to make expressions of sympathy may make donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Saskatchewan or to a Charity of Donor’s Choice, as tokens of remembrance, in memory of Adeline Steranko.
