Alan J. Janetka, 75, of the Town of Pelican passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday evening, August 25, 2021 at St. Mary’s Hospital.
Al was born in Chicago, Illinois on July 19, 1946, to Steven and Anne (Babiar) Janetka. He was raised in the City of Chicago until the seventh grade when the family moved to LaGrange Park, Illinois. In 1964, Alan graduated from St. Joseph Catholic High School in Westchester, Illinois. He met his future wife, Marlene in 1965 and the couple were married on September 7, 1968 at St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church in Schiller Park, Illinois. Al was a 1972 graduate of Illinois Benedictine University in Lisle, Illinois receiving a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry. The couple settled in Franklin Park, Illinois for two years, Addison, Illinois for twenty years, Hanover Park, Illinois for fourteen years until September 15, 2018 when Alan and Marlene moved to Rhinelander.
Al began his employment with Eaton Controls in Research and Development then moved onto Wurlitzer Piano and Organ working in sales. Al’s last place of employment was with Yamaha Music where he was employed for twenty-three years retiring as a District Manager.
Alan will be remembered for sharing his musical ability by participating as the church organist at St. Albert Catholic Church, Land O’ Lakes, St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Tomahawk and Holy Family Catholic Church in Woodruff.
He was a member of Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church, a thirty-year member of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, a member of the Flotilla #41-11, the Train Collectors Association and the Pioneer Park Train Museum.
Al enjoyed golfing, boating, fishing and model railroading.
He will be dearly missed by his wife; Marlene, children; Sherianne (Kevin) Hermes of Elburn, Illinois, Dale (Dorothy) Janetka of Volo, Illinois, four grandchildren; Jamie Jakubowski, Elise Jakubowski, Emerson Janetka and Ava Janetka, brother; Danny (Dianne) Janetka of Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, brother-in-law; Larry Hulina of Rhinelander, and a sister-in-law; Sheri (Joseph) Abel of Rhinelander, Wisconsin. Also surviving are nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Al is preceded in death by his parents.
The visitation for Al will take place on Monday, August 30, 2021 at Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church located at 125 E. King Street from 10:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial. Fr. Kevin Farrell will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Al may be given to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, Tennessee, 38105.
