Alan Kent, age 78, passed away on Friday, August 8, 2025 in Sebring, Florida surrounded by family. He was born on May 20, 1947 in Melrose Park, Illinois to Walter and Jean (Regdos) Kent. The family moved to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida in 1953. He married Linda Chapman in 1967. They moved to Sebring in 1976, and he worked as a math educator with most of this career in service at Sebring High School. He also served as an officer of the Navy full time for five years active duty. Alan continued his service to his country by completing his career with the Navy, serving in the Reserves, and retiring as a Lieutenant Commander. Alan’s third career was his business Kent’s Tax Service. He was driven by service to his country and his community. After Alan retired, he continued to serve the students of Highlands County by donating his time to drive a school bus for various field trips, enabling many amazing learning opportunities for students. He also volunteered to drive a golf cart at Advent Health to transport patients as well as visitors. In addition to all of this, he volunteered his time to drive the DAV Van for Veterans to have free transportation from Highlands County to Bay Pines Medical Facilities. Alan was a member of First Baptist Church for 49 years and served as a Deacon. Alan was driven by love for his family, love for God, love for his country, and love for his community.
Alan loved good books and time with family and friends. His steady encouragement and warm humor touched students, colleagues, and neighbors alike.
Alan is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Linda Kent. He is survived by his daughters, Lisa Branca (James, Sr.) and Lana DeLaney (Derek); grandchildren James Branca, Jr. (Haven) and Megan DeLaney; great grandchild, Mark Branca; and sister Debra (Hugh) Donahue. He was preceded in death by his father (Walter), mother (Jean), and son (Peter James).
Visitation will be held at First Baptist Church on Saturday, August 16, 2025, beginning at 2:00 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 3:00 p.m. A private interment will be in Sarasota National Cemetery.
