Alan M. Turnis

(August 27, 1988 - November 3, 2024)

Alan Turnis, 36, of Bernard, Iowa, passed away Sunday, November 3, 2024, in Bernard, Iowa.

Visitation for Alan will be held from 2 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, November 10, 2024, at Reiff Funeral Home in Cascade, Iowa, where a prayer service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Visitation will also be held after 9 a. m. on Monday at the funeral home.

Mass of Christian Burial for Alan will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, November 11, 2024, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Fillmore, Iowa with Rev. Mark Osterhaus presiding. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Fillmore, Iowa.

Alan was born on August 27, 1988, in Dubuque, Iowa, son of Mike and Joan (Welter) Turnis. He was a 2007 graduate of Cascade High School in Cascade, Iowa. On June 11, 2022, he was united in marriage to Olivia Lamphere on the family farm in Bernard, Iowa.

Alan was known as “Squeak” to most people. He had a passion for farming and loved continuing the family farming operation with his brother David. He was a terrific mechanic and could fix anything. He enjoyed making “service calls” in one of his many tool vans over the years to help people out. He was quick to help his mother or any friend or stranger in need, but his response time wasn't always as quick for his wife or brother's requests. He loved animals, especially his dogs who often got to ride along with him. He loved fishing, old country music, and a cold Busch Light. He loved children and treated his nieces, nephew, and friends' children as his own. He made friends easily and could BS with anyone he met.

He was on the Three Rivers FS Board of Directors and was a member of the Sacred Heart Parish in Fillmore, Iowa.

Those left to cherish Alan's memory are his wife, Olivia Turnis of Bernard; his parents, Mike and Joan Turnis of Cascade; four siblings, Brenda (Mitch) Klepper of Cascade, Kayleen (Alex) Loes of Marion, David Turnis of Bernard, and Jessica (Garrett) Kline of Hills; three nieces and one nephew, Kate and Maddie Klepper, Amelia and Michael Loes; his father and mother-in-law, John and Donna Lamphere of Cascade; A brother-in-law, Cody (Sarah) Lamphere of Tracy, CA; aunts and uncles, Mel (Rita) Welter of Monticello, Ann and Wayne Turnis of Key West, Dan (Marlene) Welter of Cascade, Les Welter of Onslow, Herb (Paula) Welter of Lincoln, NE, Jim (Denise) Welter of Onslow, Kenny Welter (and friend, Anne) of Port Orchard, WA, Connie (Mark) Singletary of Colleyville, TX, Julie (Pat) Shay of Ankeny, Karen (Scot) Knepper of Cascade, Susan McKinley of Ankeny, and Gerald (Judy) Turnis of Dubuque; and numerous cousins. He will be greatly missed by the many close friends and neighbors who were like family to Alan throughout the years.

He is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Herman and Veronica (Manternach) Welter; paternal grandparents, Cyril and Kathryn (White) Turnis; three uncles, Gary and Alan Welter and Jim McKinley.
