Obituary

Alean's Obituary

Mrs. Alean Hendon, 73, of, Pontiac, Michigan, peacefully transitioned on February 22, 2026, in Ann Arbor, Michigan, surrounded by an abundance of love.

Alean was born on February 1, 1953, in Epps, Louisiana, to the late, Beatrice (Mason) Smith and Lee Edward Smith.  She was also preceded in death by.three brothers: John Smith, Louis “Man” Smith, and Allen Smith; and four sisters: Shellie Shaw, Ruby Williams, Cora “Ann” Smith, Josie B. Shanks: one brother-in-law, Willie (Gail) Maclin: and one sister-in-law Eliza (Allen) Smith. 

She grew up in Epps before relocating to Pontiac, Michigan, in 1967.  She graduated from Pontiac Central High School and later continued her education at Oakland Community College (OCC).

At an early age, Alean was introduced to Christ, beginning a lifelong journey of faith. Her greatest passion was seeking the face of God and ensuring her family was spiritually grounded, prepared, and positioned to flourish in life.

She was united for 54 years in marriage to Gary Hendon Sr. in Pontiac, Michigan. From this union, three sons were born: Gary (Lumengo) Hendon Jr., Kenyon Hendon, and Quamaine (Seante) Hendon.  She also leaves to cherish her loving memory: 4 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

Celebration of life will be held on Saturday, March 7, 2026, at Cobb's Funeral Home 151 Orchard Lake Road, Pontiac, Michigan.  Family hour will begin at 10:00am and the service will promptly start at 10:30am.  Internment will be held at Perry Mount Park Cemetery, Pontiac, Michigan, immediately after the service.
