Alfred Emanuel Simon Sr. was born to John and Clarice Simon on January 11, 1929 at Bellavue Hospital in New York City. Alfred attended New York City Public Schools, graduating from Bronx Vocational High School where he concentrated in auto mechanics. He always had an interest in automobiles. After his high school graduation, he gained employment as a mechanics apprentice with a taxi cab company. He worked there for many years and became the foreman. In the 1960's Alfred decided he wanted to be a school teacher. After attending the University of the State of New York and City College of New York and obtaining Bachelor and Master Degrees, he taught at Manhattan High School for Boys PS #58. He retired in 1995. Upon retirement, Alfred and his wife Olive moved to Brodnax, Virginia from Montclair, New Jersey. Alfred was a devoted member of Miles Bethel Memorial CME Church in La Crosse, Virginia. He served for several years on the Steward Board and he sang with the Men's Chorus. He loved to sing with the Men's Chorus especially when he had the opportunity to sing his solo in his favorite hymn, "I Surrender All." Alfred and his dear Olive were active members in the church. Alfred has joined his beloved wife, Olive, in God's kingdom along with sisters: Norma, Phyllis, Florence, Millicent and Marguerite; brothers: John and Rudolph and granddaughter Deana. He leaves to mourn his passing his daughter Deborah Bostick (Leroy) and sons Alfred Simon Jr, Gregory Bain, Robert Bain (Brenda), eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren. There are many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends, and special friends Wilma and Robert Wilson, Robert Brown and Roger Powell. Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 11, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. at Miles Bethel Memorial CME Church, La Crosse, VA with interment in Crestview Memorial Park. Viewing will be held on Friday, April 10, 2015 from 12:00 noon until 6:00 P.M at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Funeral services are entrusted to the staff of the Oris P. Jones Funeral Establishment.
