Allen D. Cummings, Sr., age 85 of Elwood, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 18, 2023 at Beaumont Rehabilitation and Healthcare in Anderson following a brief illness. He was born January 18, 1938 in Alexandria the son of Arthur and Wista (Allen) Cummings. Allen worked in production for Owens-Brockway Glass Corporation in Lapel and retired after 20 years of service. Allen married Sue Ann Ellsworth on October 13, 1968 and they shared nearly 55 years together. He attended Alexandria schools and was a former member of the Alexandria Eagles Lodge. Allen enjoyed working in his yard and mowing. He also formerly was active in local bowling leagues where he first met his wife. Allen will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who will be greatly missed.
Allen’s family includes his wife, Sue Ann Cummings of Elwood; 2 children, Resa (Eric) Fox of Northville, MI and Allen D. (Novalee) Cummings, Jr. of Jonesboro; 2 step-children, Rick (Lisa) Leever of Anderson and Keith (Sandra) Leever of Elwood; 2 sisters, Alice Harville of Alexandria and Dorothy Green of Georgia; several grandchildren including Tyler Fox of Northville, MI; and numerous nieces and nephews. Allen was preceded in death by both his parents; granddaughter, Alexa Rae Fox; and 9 siblings, Richard Cummings, James Cummings, Everett Cummings, Arthur Cummings, Russell Cummings, Wilheminia Cummings, Bonita Russell, Cheri Felton, and Tyvonnia Hooover; step-son, Jerry Leever.
A funeral service celebrating Allen’s life will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Thursday, September 21, 2023 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with Pastor Scott Blaylock of Life Church officiating. Burial will follow in the Elwood City Cemetery in Elwood. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 11 am to 1 pm on Thursday prior to the funeral at the funeral home.
