Alma's Obituary

Alma Mae (Hyde) James, 89, was born on November 18, 1936, to Otto Hyde and Zonie T. (Dover) Hyde in Cole. She passed away in Norman on January 14, 2026. Alma married Jimmy Lawrence James on April 16, 1974. Alma was known for her baking and cooking, especially her cinnamon rolls. A devoted homemaker and natural caretaker, she would do anything she could for anyone who needed help. Alma loved her granddogs, especially Taylar, and took joy in caring for them as she did everyone else. In the 1960s and 70s, she owned the Right Way Café in Blanchard, where she became well known for her pies and fried pies. Sweet, hardworking, and deeply loved, Alma was a steady presence in the lives of those around her. Her guidance, care, and quiet devotion will be deeply missed.

Preceded in death by parents; husband Jimmy Lawrence James; brothers James, Walter, and Daniel Hyde; sisters Pauline Williams and Barbara Fuentes; and former husband Reatus Brightwell.

Survived by son Toby James and partner Mike Neal of Cashion; sisters Elsie Hyde of Blanchard and Fern Prince of OKC; many nieces and nephews; special friends Nate Bossiere, Jimmy West, and Jessica Milligan; and granddogs Joey, Chandler, and Ross.
