Alvarez was a great brother-in-law and uncle. He really cared about family and his home town, New Orleans. Alvarez is always in our fondest memories of when we lived there. He will be missed.

Alvarez Joseph Walter, Sr. entered into heavenly peace on Sunday, December 4, 2016 at the age of 57. He was a man of loyalty, laughter, and love. Born August 31, 1959, to the late Rene and Baylissa C. Walter and five children: Amanda, Alvarez, Alexis, Samara, and Nicholas. Also his grandchildren whom he adored: Jaylin, Sarai, Caleb and Chloe. He was the youngest of 13 siblings who shared countless memories with him throughout his dynamic lifetime. Alvarez is survived by: Gerald Walter (Elaine), Jennifer W. Henry (Irvin), Byron Walter (Katie-Ann), Denise W. McConduit, Rhonda W. Purnell (Alton), Rene Walter, Jr. (Beryl) Kenneth Walter (Annie), Keith Walter, Donna W. Castenell (Andre), Eric Walter (Sonia), Eleanor W. Fields (David), Ann W. Marr (Craig) and he was the loving spouse of Elise Walter for twenty years. He is also survived by devoted aunts Geraldine Reed, Aleeta Walters and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and a host of friends. Alvarez was a Saints-loving, Mardi Gras parade going family man who had a passion for making ordinary things extraordinary. He contributed to the restoration of historic landmarks throughout the city as a Master Stone Mason and was elected as the Chapter Chairman for the Allied Craftworkers Union of New Orleans. His signature trademark was to create and imbed time capsules in all of his projects for future generations to discover. Memorial Services for Alvarez J. Walter will be held at Gentilly Baptist Church on Saturday, December 10, 2016 at 9:30 am. The address is 5141 Franklin Ave, New Orleans, LA 70122. The memorial service will be officiated by longtime neighbor and friend, Rev. Ed Morris. Arrangements entrusted to Majestic Mortuary (504)523-5872.
