Alvin's Obituary

Alvin L. Adams, aged 82, passed away on July 20, 2025, in Los Angeles, California. Born on February 25, 1943 in Blythe, California. He was the beloved son of the late Lillian E. Adams and Calvin C. Adams, Sr. Alvin was the third of five children born to this beautiful union.

Alvin grew up in Blythe, CA and was educated in the local schools and was a graduate of Palo Verde High class of 1960. He enlisted in the United States Navy, and was stationed aboard the USS Henrico APA 45. He served his country in full active duty from August 1960 through February 1964. This time in the military instilled in him discipline and commitment which he carried throughout his life. Following his military service, Alvin transitioned into the family business, joining his Uncle Bob Bradford, who operated a janitorial business. Alvin worked over 50-years as a highly skilled Window Cleaning Technician for many residential clients and Country Clubs, along with providing other janitorial services. He diligently served many clients over the years with honor and commitment in his work.

Family was very important to Alvin; he cherished the trips we planned each year to the local amusement parks and had just as much fun as the young ones. He organized a memorable vacation trip to the World's Fair in Spokane, Washington creating many lasting memories. We always looked forward to his visits, especially at Christmas because we knew he would always bless the family with gifts, as well as the "brain teaser" games and puzzles that made you think. He also looked forward to family gatherings because he knew it was going to be plenty of good eating.

Alvin loved the game of basketball, which started when he played for the high school team, and that carried over into his adult life as well. He was an avid Los Angeles Lakers fan and had season tickets for over two decades. He participated in various basketball leagues throughout the years and coached a boys youth basketball team. Music, particularly Jazz, was another great interest to him. He amassed a good collection of albums that he enjoyed listening to in his spare time. Whether it was the “Showtime Lakers” or the smooth sounds of jazz, he embraced every moment.

Alvin began his Christian journey at Bethel AME Church, Blythe CA at a young age. He was a man of faith and loved the Lord and later in life he united with Rose of Sharon AME Church, Norwalk CA. During his time there he served as a Trustee and a member of the Men’s Ministry.

Known for being a great listener and encourager, Alvin’s presence will be greatly missed. His kindness and generosity will be remembered by those who were blessed to know him.

Alvin was preceded in death by his two brothers, James E. Adams and Calvin C. Adams, Jr. Those left to cherish his memories are his sisters Yvonne Swayze (Keith), Blythe, CA and Estella Thaxton (Henry), Houston, TX and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family and friends.

Funeral services for Alvin will be held at Frye Chapel on Friday, October 10, 2025 at 11 a.m. Military honors and burial will follow at Palo Verde Cemetery.
