I knew Alvin 30 years ago in a different time in my life, such a kind man such a wonderful family which I was almost a part of for life, I will have love in my heart for all of the always and this kind man. Our family will all miss our buddy. Our grandchildren called him grandpa and always wanted to go see Grandma Alice and Grandpa Al.we had many good times celebrating holidays together and many hours on the back deck and pool. Alvin's Obituary

Alvin L. Smith, M.D., 88, the most brilliant, gentle and generous husband, father, grandfather and friend went to meet his Lord and Savior Monday, January 23, 2017. He was born August 10, 1928, in Yuma, AZ to Leon and Ida Smith. Alvin held multiple degrees from Stanford University, graduated from Marquette Medical School and held several boards. While in school, he was part of three successful medical research projects. Alvin was Associate Director of St. Francis Medical Lab and Director of A.M.S. for 40 years. He is preceded in death by his mother, father and sister. He is survived by Alice, his wife of 26 years; children, Robyn Knappe, of Parker, CO, Mark Smith, of Wichita, KS, Todd Smith, of Nixa, MO, Elizabeth (Eric) Mowjee, of Meridian, ID; 15 grandchildren, Tyler, Benjamin (Pearl), Rebekah, Nicholas (currently serving in the Middle East), and Alexandria Knappe of CO, Mallory, Hailey and Samuel Smith of GA, Amberine, Shayan, Natasha and Alaynah Mowjee of ID, Seth Smith, Orion and Oliva Perry of Wichita; 1 great-grandchild, Schuyier Smith; nieces and nephews, Cheryl and Bryan Richman, Craig, Jessica, and Justin Davidson; and the daughter of his heart, Paula Smith. The hearts of those who knew him are broken, and he will be dearly missed. Rosary will be at 7 pm, Sunday, January 29; Funeral Mass will be at 10 am, Monday, January 30 both at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton. Graveside service will be at 2 pm, Monday, January 30 at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, Newton, KS. Memorial may be made to the Wichita-Sedgwick County Historical Museum, 204 South Main, Wichita, KS 67202. Downing and Lahey Mortuary West.
