Not sure what to say?

My grandpa was a stoic man.

The kind of man who did not narrate his feelings or hand them out easily. He was not loud with his love. He did not fill any rooms with his laughter or give long speeches about how proud he was. If you were looking for grand gestures, you probably would have missed him.

Most of my memories of him are not wrapped in warmth or nostalgia. They are set in Joe and Josie’s bar, and in his trailer that always, and I mean always, smelled like smoke....

Belinda , Laurie and Family so sorry for your loss

Alvin E. Spencer, 77, of Lemont, passed away peacefully with his daughters at his side on February 14, 2026.

Preceded in death by his parents, Alvin and Lucille, nee Splitt, Spencer, a brother, Gerald Spencer, and a great-nephew, Michael Garner. Survived by his daughters, Laurie L. Spencer, Sandi M. Spencer, Lisa C. Kittl, and Belinda (Rick) Ostrander; 11 grandchildren, Erick, Hayley, Krystie, Austin, Tyler, Brice, Kaleb, Jordan, Jaimee, James, and Joshua; 4 great-grandchildren, Audrey, Zane, Nadaley, and Noella; his siblings, Mona (Tom) Ganze and Brenda Eberl; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A proud U.S. Marine, he served during Vietnam from 1966-1972, and was a recipient of the Purple Heart, and Bronze Star, he served his country with courage and quiet strength.

Alvin was a proud father and grandfather.  He was steady, dependable, and showed his love through his actions more than his words.  His family always knew they could count on him.

He was a simple, straightforward man who believed in doing what was right.  He would help anyone in need and never asked for anything in return.  What you saw was what you got, honesty and loyalty.

He will be deeply missed and remembered for the strength, integrity, and love he gave to those around him.

Visitation Sunday, February 22, 2026, from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m., with a Memorial service at 5 p.m. at Markiewicz Funeral Home, P.C. 108 Illinois St. Lemont.
