Funeral services for Alvoid Pilot, Jr., 97, will be held Saturday, April 12, 2025, at the Antioch Baptist Church in Leigh, Tx. at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow in the Antioch Cemetery. Viewing will be Friday, April 11, 2025, at Lewis Funeral Home from 1 to 6:00 p.m. Mr. Pilot was born March 4, 1928, in Karnack, TX. and died April 4, 2025, in Shreveport, LA.
Mr. Alvoid Pilot, Jr. was born on March 4, 1928, in Karnack, Texas to his father Mr. Alvoid Pilot, Sr. and his mother Mrs. Annie Lee Pilot. Mr. Pilot departed his earthly life on Friday, April 4, 2025. Mr. Pilot attended George Washington Carver School in his hometown of Karnack, Texas. He was a life-long member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church in Leigh, Texas where he also served as chairman of the Deacon Board for several years. At the age of 20, Mr. Pilot joined the United States Army where he was stationed in Germany during the Korean War. Prior to serving in the Army, Mr. Pilot was employed at the Armor's Meat Packaging Company in Kansas City, Missouri. Upon returning to America, Mr. Pilot continued his employment at the meat packing company where he met and married Rosa Lee Webb-Pilot in February 1955. From their union, he had five children, Helen, Alvoid III, Brenda, Iris, and Jacqueline and legally adopted her two children from a previous marriage, Rozell and Harriett. Mr. Pilot returned to Karnack, Texas where he married Bonnie Pilot in July 1975 and became the stepfather to Elaine Davis. Their lasted 33 years until Bonnie passed away. During this time frame, Mr. Pilot was employed as a Maintenance Supervisor for the City of Marshall, Texas. He later became a Supervisor for Laidlaw Waste Systems. Additionally, he was employed by the Karnack, Texas School District serving in the Maintenance Department as well as a school bus driver for many students throughout the community. In his later years, Mr. Pilot met and married Jacqueline Castleberry-Pilot in August 2017 to whom he remained married until his death. Jacqueline Castleberry-Pilot also had two children (Tyrone and Renina) to which Mr. Pilot also became a stepfather. Mr. Pilot truly enjoyed living in Karnack, Texas and often spent much of his spare time providing personal lawn care services for several people and businesses throughout his community and surrounding cities. Preceding him in death are his parents; daughter, Brenda; sister, Girtha Ruffin; Rosa Lee Webb-Pilot; Bonnie Pilot; granddaughter, Jacquetta Pilot; grandson Timothy Nunn; brother-in-law, Calvin Ruffin; son, Alvoid Pilot III. He leaves to mourn, his wife, Jacqueline Castleberry-Pilot; children, Rozell (Glenda), Harriet (Cueler, Sr.), Helen, Iris (LaVance Sr.) Jacqueline; along with 17 grandchildren, and a host of great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He also leaves to mourn a multitude of other family members, friends and various community members.
