Alex, Andre and Christina, I attended the service this morning and, despite the weather, it was a perfect memorial to your wonderful mother. Christina, you are your mom to a tee! Funny, warm and vivacious. Your eulogy was pitch perfect and made your mom proud.
Please accept my, and the whole Cowling family ‘s condolences and be assured I will continue to pray for Ana Maria, as well as the entire family during this difficult time.

I cannot begin to express my sincere condolences to my darling “second mom,” Ana. Ana was absolutely one of a kind. She was the most magnificent mother and friend to my darling forever friend Christina. I will never forget her beautiful smile, and I hope to emulate at least half of her strength and kindness. She always made me feel loved and welcomed. I cannot claim to understand why the best ones have to leave us soon, but all I know is that I will honor Ana’s beautiful heart and contagious...

Ana Maria Monserrat Barake, passed away, Sunday, February 8, 2026.
Beloved mother of Alexander (Janice Hu) Barake, Andre (Danica Harootian) Barake, and Christina (Andrew Kelley) Barake. Loving and proud GB of Levy Dominique and Genevieve Sierra. Dearest sister of Rene Monserrat, Alina Murphy, and George (Susan) Monserrat. Dearest cousin of Magda Lena Almirall Addario. Dear aunt and friend of many. She is preceded in death by her parents, Rene and Elsie Monserrat.
Born and raised in Havana, Cuba, she grew up surrounded by her loving parents and three siblings. Her life was one of movement, resilience, and curiosity-beginning in Cuba, continuing through Miami, and eventually settling in Washington, D.C., with many meaningful places and journeys in between. Travel remained a lifelong passion, and she loved sharing her experiences and stories.
Above all else, her greatest and most cherished role was being a mother. She devoted her life to her children, making them her priority in every season and every decision. Her love was unwavering, her support constant, and her presence deeply felt. She was the kind of mother every child hopes for-attentive, nurturing, strong, and endlessly proud. She was also a devoted sister, a loyal friend, and a natural caregiver. Later in life, she followed her heart into service, working with a home care agency to care for the elderly, offering dignity, patience, and kindness to those who needed it most. Her compassion extended beyond people; she volunteered with an animal shelter in St. Louis, giving her time and love freely. Vibrant, well-rounded, and deeply loving, she lived with warmth and intention. Her life was defined not by where she went, but by how she loved-fully, generously, and without reservation. Her legacy lives on in her children, in the lives she touched, and in the quiet, enduring kindness she shared with the world.
Services: A graveside service will be conducted at Bellerive Gardens, 740 North Mason Rd. Creve Coeur MO 63141 on Saturday, February 14, 2026 at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Missouri.
