Andrew's Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Andrew Jackson Newcomb Jr. He was claimed as one of Christ?s own into his heavenly kingdom on March 25, 2014. He was preceded in death by two children, Brian Jeffrey Newcomb and Fairlyn Newcomb. Jack was a lifelong Roanoker. He attended VMI, served in the Pacific theater in WWII and was married to his beloved Manette for 65 years. He is survived by his wife Manette Stone Newcomb; two daughters, Sherry Newcomb of Roanoke and Robin Newcomb Gleason of Atlanta, Ga. He is also survived by three grandchildren all of Atlanta; Susannah Jordan Gleason, Justin Jackson Gleason, and Lauren Ansley Glesaon. He is survived by one brother, Fred Newcomb of Charlotte, N.C and a sister, Phyllis East of Mobile, AL. Jack was an active member of Second Presbyterian Church where donations can be made or to the Salvation Army where he served on the board for many years. A private graveside ceremony will take place on Friday March 28, 2014 and will be followed by a public Memorial Service at 11:00 a.m. at Second Presbyterian Church, Roanoke, Virginia.
