Anecita's Obituary

With deep sadness, the family of the late Anecita De Asis announce her passing at the Nipawin Hospital, Nipawin, SK, on November 26, 2021, at the age of 91 years.Anecita was born in E.B. Magalona, Negros Occidental, Philippines and attended school until the 4th Grade, consequently of World War II.Her aspiration in life was to become a teacher. Unknowingly, she has taught us all greatly and continues to teach us each day. Anecita married her first husband, Jose Bedonia, and had two boys, Jimmy and Johny. It pained her when they were ravaged by landmines. Survived, she remarried Ereneo De Asis, and raised ten children: Freddie, Gloria, Merly, Raul, Rudy, Eddie, Ireneo, Shirley, Dione & Lucy. While seven months pregnant with Lucy, Ereneo passed from cancer, leaving Anecita with nine children and one on the way. Tirelessly, as a single parent, she did what she could to provide for her family. She then found strength in Jesus and became a local medicine woman - helping many with her healing hands, and even delivering babies. At the age of 70 years, Anecita was sponsored by Lucy and now late husband, Edward Lukaszuk. In Canada, she joined her grandsons, James and Jerold Lukaszuk. Aside from cold winters, she considered Canada as a paradise; one to share with family. She helped Lucy sponsor more family members to immigrate to Canada in hopes of sharing opportunities for a better life.On this life changing journey, Anecita enjoyed her time on an acreage outside of Hudson Bay, SK. Outdoors, she would forage for berries, fruits, and vegetables with Lucy, family and friends. She shared a love for food, an emphasis on family, and held gatherings for special occasions like birthdays, Christmas, and Easter.Anecita will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.She was predeceased by her parents, Magdalena Oparel and Alfredo Bautista; all her siblings; husbands, Jose and Ereneo; sons, Rudy, Dione, and Freddie; and her son-in-law, Edward. She is survived by her daughter, Lucy (Charles) Webb; grandsons, James and Jerold Lukaszuk; in-laws, Dale and Kathy; sons: Raul, Eddie, and Ireneo; daughters: Gloria, Merely, and Shirley; and all her treasured grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends.Anecita is remembered for her gentle nature, unconditional positive regard, welcoming demeanor, infectious smile, unwavering patience, and immense understanding. Her message for family and friends reads: “Health, peace, & love for all.”A Visitation was held at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, December 4, 2021, at the family acreage 2.5 miles north on the Ruby Lake Road, Hudson Bay, SK. A Graveside Service followed at 1:00 p.m., at the Hudson Bay Community Cemetery, Hudson Bay, SK, with Shawna Leson as certified celebrant and Rev. George Canto leading in prayer. Those wishing to make expressions of sympathy may make donations to STARS Air Ambulance, as tokens of remembrance, in memory of Anecita De Asis.
