Angelo's Obituary

Angelo Mario Daurio passed away quietly in his home with family at his side on Wednesday, August 5, 2020.

He was born in Pueblo Colorado February 5, 1937, and was a 1955 graduate of Pueblo’s Central High School. Angelo left Pueblo for the Pacific Ocean and Islands, proudly serving in the U.S. Navy aboard the destroyers USS Douglas A. Munro and USS Radford. He returned to Colorado where he attended University of Northern Colorado in Greeley. He married his first wife, Evelyn Talbow of Pueblo, June 10, 1962, and raised four kids in the Denver area during their 18 year marriage.

With a Master’s Degree in Education, Angelo enjoyed a successful career as a teacher and school administrator at Pueblo’s South High School, and Jefferson County Schools Warren Tech and Golden High. His passion being education, he served in public office in multiple positions on boards for the State of Colorado, the longest term being on the State Board of Community Colleges. He was active in the National Association of State Supervisors and American Vocational Association.  Angelo also served on the City of Arvada Planning Commission for many years. Service to youth and his community was paramount throughout his life.

Angelo retired in 1992, moving to Arizona where he actively resided for 27 years at the Pointe South Mountain community in Ahwatukee.

After seven years together, he married the love of his life, Kathleen Denial Durkee, of Evergreen, CO, on April 7, 1999. She brought two children to his family. Kathleen permanently joined Angelo in Phoenix, where they enjoyed their retirement hiking, golfing, traveling, socializing, and spoiling their grandchildren. They also loved their friends and communities in Phoenix, Denver, San Clemente, Las Vegas and Flagstaff.

Angelo will be greatly missed by many. He is preceded in passing by his parents Louis and Stella Daurio and brother-in-law Carl Dionisio of Pueblo, CO, and grandsons Michael and Anthony Carlson of Scottsdale, AZ.

He is survived by his loving wife Kathleen of Phoenix, AZ; sister Virginia Dionisio of Mesa, AZ; children Mary (Mike) Lynn of Denver, CO; Joseph Mark Dyer-Daurio of Fort Morgan, CO; Lisa (Rick) Wilcoxson of Scottsdale, AZ; Leanna (John) Fruin of Delray Beach, FL; Steven Daurio of Phoenix, AZ; Paul Daurio of Sedona, AZ; Brian Durkee of Scottsdale, AZ; Marissa Verbis of Phoenix, AZ; and grandchildren Christian Fruin, Savannah Fruin, Nicolas Daurio, Bianca Daurio, Sarah Carlsen, Ayden Daurio, Kellan Verbis, Eric Wilcoxson, Chris Wilcoxson, Cody Wilcoxson, and Jessy (Jason) Grossman.

Many more nieces and nephews, in-laws, cousins, extended family, and dear friends will miss the bright smile and laughter of Angelo, Sonny, Cheech, Munro, Nick...We all know that he loved to participate in life, but only for short periods. We were blessed with him for 83 years, but understand, “Joe’s gotta go.”

May he rest in peace.

Due to current Covid-19 public health concerns, no services will be held. Lisa will announce a celebration of life event to be held at some future date.
