I had a graduate course with Nancy years ago, and I think of her often. In 1978, my girlfriend and I were going to Ireland. Nancy told us to look up a young woman who had a B & B. We did! By this time, the young woman had married and had a baby. We did indeed look her up for what we thought would be a quick visit. Four hours later, we left after a tearful goodbye. Thank you, Nancy, for making our trip even more memorable with your suggestion! Enjoy Heaven!

Nancy Mae Peters Clinnin of Marengo died on May 31, 2025 at her home at the age of 89. She was born in Elkhorn, WI on April 16, 1936, the only child of Walter and Violet Peters. Growing up in Chicago, she showed her trademark practicality by declining her ballet tutor's offer to join a professional tour. Her lifelong love of art also blossomed there - she could tell you what was on display in every room of the Art Institute in each of her nine decades as a member.Relentlessly curious, she graduated from Harvard High School in 1953 and Monmouth College (Biology) in 1957. While she would later earn a Masters Degree (Education) from De Paul University and educate students in McHenry County for 33 years, she was a schoolteacher through-and-through from the day she was born. Over the years she and her husband built their own home, traveled to 21 countries and all 50 states, and belonged to two Model A clubs. She tended beautiful flower gardens in her immaculate front yard, and she remained the doting matriarch of her family through the very end.She was loyal, caring, wickedly funny, and fearless (with the exception of birds, which she also paradoxically adored.) For those closest to her she never shied away from sharing her opinion or asking a pointed question, but it was always with warmth and genuine curiosity. We would do well to take a lesson from her and speak our minds more directly and often. She is survived by her husband Patrick, children Michael (Dawn Wenszell) and JoAnn Niemiec (Carl), grandchildren Andrew Clinnin, Kim Hamilton (Chris), Jennifer Clinnin, Lauren Niemiec (Taylor Jackson) and several cousins. Services will be held on Saturday, September 20 at the 1st Presbyterian Church: visitation 9-10:15 AM and funeral 10:15-11. Burial will follow at Mt. Auburn Cemetery in Harvard, and then a luncheon at the Big Foot Inn.
