It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Ancil “Chemo" Flores Jr., who left us on July 26, 2025. Born on September 30, 1930, Ancil lived a long, fulfilling life filled with love, hard work, and an enduring spirit that touched the lives of many.
Ancil was a man who always put others before himself, a trait that endeared him to everyone he met. He hated asking for help but was always ready to lend a hand. His philosophy in life was simple but profound: Nothing is ever given to you - you must work for it. This belief guided his actions and served as a beacon for those around him.
Left behind to cherish his memory are his children, Anita Chavez and Ernest Chavez of Wichita Falls, TX, Ancil E Flores III and Yolanda Flores of Plano, TX, Edward Flores and Margaret Flores of Garland, TX, Rebecca Martinez and Joey Criado of Lubbock, TX, Joe Flores and Becky Flores of Lubbock, TX, and Margaret Benton and John Benton of Greenville, TX. His 24 grandchildren, his 55 great-grandchildren, and his 12 great-great-grandchildren will also remember him fondly. Siblings left behind with a lifetime of memories are Pearl Casillas, Rosemary Franco, Helen Rodriguez, Linda Guerra, Louisa Barton, Lydia Navarette, Manuel Flores and Billy Joe Flores. Ancil was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Celia Casillas Flores, with whom he shared a beautiful journey since their marriage in 1948, his daughter, Marta Flores, his parents, Ancil Flores Sr. and Rebecca Everett Flores, his sister Katarina Casillas, and two grandsons, Mark Hernandez and Ernie Chavez.
After retiring from field work and his John Deere tractors, Ancil found great joy in recreational activities, particularly fishing and working on his lawn mowers. These simple pleasures provided him peace and satisfaction. His heart was full when the family would gather at his home to fry fish, to grill up a good steak, and to play a “friendly” game of horseshoes, washers or corn hole.
A viewing and rosary will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Knox City on Thursday, July 31, 2025, at 7pm., 210 Ave. A, Knox City, Texas. A graveside service will be held at Knox City Cemetery on Friday, August 1, 2025, at 10am with Father Sandeep Lakra officiating under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes, Knox City.
Ancil's light will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of those who knew him. We will remember his generosity, kindness, hardworking nature, and the deep love he had for his family. His legacy will live on through the cherished memories and life lessons he has left behind.
