Anthony Carl Salucci, 85, passed away May 10, 2021. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. with the Funeral Service at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, May 18, at Passantino Bros. Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery.
Anthony was born September 29, 1935 at 6th & Park in Northeast Kansas City, MO, and was a graduate of De La Salle High School and Rockhurst College where he earned his MBA. He joined the Army in 1956 and served as a Chaplain’s Assistant at Fort Leonard Wood. Following his honorable discharge, he began his career in the truck lines starting as a dock worker and working his way into management. He worked for P.I.E., Yellow Freight, Totabush, Buford, Navajo, and CF where he held positions in sales, terminal management, and labor management before becoming Director of Labor Relations. He also served on the Mo/Kan Grievance Committee and the International Negotiating Committee. Anthony was known as a “fair guy” who saved many jobs and helped many Teamsters with his familiar warning “don’t come in front of this committee again”. He also served on the National Labor Relations Board in Washington, D.C. as a mediator and arbitrator. Over the years he was an advisor and friend to many.
In 1962, Anthony married his love Rosella Ruggero, thus uniting two large extended families. They enjoyed 55 years together until her passing in 2017.
Anthony was a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus Cardinal Glennon Council and served as commander of Campo-Manfre-Barbieri Post 151 of the American Legion, president of the American Sons of Columbus, and president of Holy Rosary Credit Union. He was an honorable man who was an exemplary representative of the ‘Greatest Generation’.
Along with his wife, Anthony was preceded in death by his son Nicholas Joseph Salucci in 2006, his parents Charles and Mary (Armato) Salucci, and his in-laws Nick and Jenny (Tropito) Ruggero. He is survived by his son Carl Anthony Salucci (Kathy), and several cousins, extended family, and godchildren.
