Arthur's Obituary

Arthur S. Durling of North Andover passed away on August 20, 2025, at the Meadows at Edgewood in North Andover surrounded by his family. He was 88 years of age. Art was born in Somerville, Massachusetts on January 22, 1937, the son of the late Clarence and Marjorie (Seymour) Durling.

Art grew up in Arlington and graduated from Arlington High School. Upon graduation Art enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, serving as an aircraft mechanic until being Honorably discharged in 1959. He then attended and graduated from Northeastern University and Wentworth Institute of Technology.

Art was an avid fan of professional wrestling, often recruiting his family, especially his Grandsons, to watch matches and cheer on with him.

Art was also a member of the Appalachian Mountain Club, and, along with his sons or friends and coworkers, accomplished the lofty goal of summiting all 47 (now 48) White Mountains over 4,000 feet in elevation (The “4,000-Footer Club”). He loved his mountains and also conquered Mt. Washington, the tallest of them all, on numerous occasions.

Art was always a proud veteran of the US military and considered himself a true patriot.

Art was a devoted family-man with the silent mantra of “anything for my family”. He cherished spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of whom will greatly miss their Dad, Papa, and Great-Papa.

All who were lucky enough to know Art will miss his dry wit, sense of humor and ability to make fans wherever he went.

Art’s family rests easy knowing that he has now been reunited with his loving wife of 58 years, Sandra.

Art was the beloved husband of the late Sandra P. (Powell) Durling. Devoted father of Teri L. Chuha and her husband Steve of Rockport, Raymond L. Durling and his wife Judy of Andover and Craig M. Durling of Los Angeles CA. Cherished brother of Fay English of Burlington and the late Dorothy Youngbluth.  Loving grandfather of Ashley P. Hart and her husband Ryan, Lauren Alves and her husband Mat, Abbilyn Chuha and her Fiancé Jimmy Cesario, Bradford, Michelle and Tyler Durling and loving great grandfather of Nora, Emma, Andrew and Theodore.

A Funeral Service will be held at the Douglass, Edgerley and Bessom Funeral Home 25 Sanborn St. (corner of Woburn St.) Reading on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, at 12PM.  His burial with military honors will follow at Spring Grove Cemetery in Andover.  A visitation will be held prior to the funeral from 10am-12pm.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Art’s memory to the Wounded Warrior Project PO Box 758517 Topeka, KS 66675 www.woundedwarriorproject.org
