ASTRID's Obituary

Astrid "OZZIE "E. Ratzer, 86, Mahtowa passed away peacefully in her sleep at home on Thursday, September 18, 2025. Ozzie was born January 1,1939 in Crystal Lake, Illinois to Roland and Anna (Lienav) Boree.

Ozzie moved with family to California and met Howard Ratzer roller skating. They married March 16,1957 in La Puente, California. Howard enlisted in the Air Force in 1956 after being stationed to numerous bases. They retired In Minnesota after 22 years, bought a farm and settled in Mahtowa. She was active in the Beehive, member of Salem Lutheran Church in Mahtowa, dairy association, Puppy Love Caring Canines, along with other many community events and associations through the years.

Ozzie was very friendly and had the gift to gab and joke around. She loved her family and had many pets including her service dogs: Zeus, Chip & Bandit.

She was always busy doing something and enjoyed life.   Ozzie was a seamtress and loved being very crafty making many quilts, clothes, hats, teddy bears, and stuffed dolls. She loved cooking for family and friends especially during the holidays. She enjoyed traveling in the RV & going to many events with their RV group.

She worked as a cashier at Target and the Commissary at Duluth Air Force base. After retirement she owned & operated Ozzie's Drive Inn with her husband in Carlton and worked with him at Marketplace Foods in the deli department in Moose Lake.

Ozzie was preceded in death by her husband, Howard; sisters: Barbara Fox, Yvonne Elliott and Rolaine Miller; grandson: Michael Witz; grandaughter: Taylor Ratzer.

She is survived and missed by her sister: Edna Schwartz; daughter: Sandra Witz; Sons: Roger, John (Roseann), Willie (Missy) and Howie; 9 grandchildren; 14 great grandkids; her dog's: Diesel, Chip, Ginger; and hercat: Smoky.

Graveside burial and blessing will be 2:00pm on October 24, 2025 at Mount Salem Cemetery, 3710 Co Rd. 4, Mahtowa . Fellowship to Follow at Salem Lutheran Church Hall, Mahtowa.
