Audene Luttrell's Obituary

Phala “Audene” Beck, 89, of Spearman, Texas, entered her heavenly home on Friday, May 16, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Born on July 3, 1935, in rural Armstrong County, Texas, to Clarence and Gertrude Dye Luttrell, Audene was a proud descendant of one of the county’s first settler families. Her great-grandfather, an Earl of Luttrell from outside Dublin, Ireland, added a touch of heritage to her remarkable story.

Audene married Verlin Beck on June 26, 1965, in the same ranch home where she was born, a testament to her deep roots in Armstrong County. She began her career as a banker at First National Bank of Amarillo, showcasing her intelligence and dedication. As the eighth of nine children and the last surviving sibling, Audene carried her family’s legacy with grace.

A woman of unwavering faith, Audene was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church in Spearman, where her love for Jesus guided her life. Her strong Christian beliefs shone through in her kindness, generosity, and service to others. She was honored as Hansford County Homemaker and Extension Homemaker of the Year, reflecting her commitment to her family and her community. Audene’s involvement in the Holt Extension Club, Spearman Study Club, and volunteering in her sons’ schools exemplified her calling to uplift those around her. Known for her exceptional cooking, Audene’s kitchen was a place of warmth, laughter, and shared prayers. Her ornery wit and welcoming nature, rooted in her belief that all are God’s children, ensured she never met a stranger, earning her friends wherever she went.

Audene was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Gertrude Luttrell; her beloved husband, Verlin Beck; her eight siblings and a granddaughter, Jocelyn Beck. She leaves behind a cherished legacy in her four sons: Edward Beck of Wellington, Texas; Monte Beck and wife Jennifer of Austin; Brooks Beck and wife Debbie of Spearman; and Barry Beck and wife Kelli of Pampa. Audene’s ten grandchildren, Dustin and Austin Beck, Larson and Landon Beck, Amos, Brooklyn and Camryn Beck, Travis Thompson, Hailey Wills and Zakary Beck and fourteen great-grandchildren were the light of her life and the recipients of her faithful prayers.

Viewing will be held on Thursday, May 22, 2025, and Friday, May 23, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., with family visitation on Friday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home in Spearman. Graveside services are scheduled for Saturday, May 24, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Hansford Cemetery, officiated by Rev. Byron Potter. A memorial service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Spearman, also officiated by Rev. Byron Potter, celebrating Audene’s life and faith. Arrangements are under the direction of Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home of Spearman.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the First Baptist Church Elevator Fund, 123 S. Bernice, Spearman, TX 79081, or Hansford Hospice, 707 S. Roland, Spearman, TX 79081.

Audene’s wit, warmth, and steadfast faith will live on in the hearts of all who knew her, as she rejoices in the presence of her Savior.
