August "Gus"'s Obituary

WATERBURY August "Gus" A. ScappiniLoving Father, WWII US ArmyVeteran Mr. August "Gus" A. Scappini,87, passed away Saturday, September 21, 2013 in Waterbury after a long illness.  He was the husband of the late Alphonsine(Ferro) Scappini.   August was born in Waterburyon March 4, 1926, son of the late Ricardo and Jenny (Vanzolini) Scappini. After graduating high school, he joined the US Army and proudly servedhis country during World War II in Italy. Upon his return from military service, August came home joined the forceof the Waterbury Police Department.  Later,he worked as a machinist at American Brass and earned his Master's Degree inCounseling from Central Connecticut State University.  He began teaching at Bullard Haven inBridgeport before becoming a guidance counselor at Kaynor Tech until hisretirement in 1991.  He was an avidgolfer after he retired and had a love for animals his entire life.  August was most fond of his dog, Mickey, whomhe rescued from death in Italy while serving in the Army.   August leaves behind adaughter, Mary Catherine Scappini; a brother Anthony and his wife PhyllisScappini; and a sister, Mary Rinaldi, all of Waterbury; seven nephews, AttorneyRichard Scappini, Kenneth Scappini, Joseph Scappini, Jr., Dr. Raymond Rinaldi, MarkRinaldi, Gary Scappini and Bob Scappini; and a niece, Maryann Hiza.  He was predeceased by his son, Vincent.   Arrangements: Funeral will beheld Tuesday, September 24, 2013, 9:00 a.m. from Chase Parkway Memorial/TheAlbini Family Funeral Home, 430 Chase Parkway, Waterbury to Blessed SacramentChurch for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Burial with full militaryhonors will follow at Mt.
