Not sure what to say?

My name is Dan Carroll and I served San Gabriel Christian as student pastor from Brite in 1967-68. I drove to San Gabrield last Saturday to just visit my first church. When I drove into the parking lot for the first time in over 50 years, the first person I thought of was Mrs. Oslick, she was the one who always made sure I was paid for that Sunday's service. I loved her and her family so much and they were the ones that got me started on my 53 years in ministry. As I sat on the front...

Doug and Gary and family members...I am so sorry for the loss of your dear sweet mother. She has been a dear friend to our mother over the years. May you all find peace in your memories and strength and comfort in our Heavenly Father in the days ahead.

While living in San Gabriel, and serving at the church, my wife and I found Gussie to be a joy. We are saddened to hear of her passing, yet joyful that her life was firmly given to Jesus.

Gary
I am truly sorry for the loss of your mother our prayers and thoughts are with you and your family.

We want to express our condolences of the loss of your love one. We know you are grief can be hard, but remember Gussie is not suffering anymore! Gussie is not gone just away! One day you will be reunited with her and other love ones! God bless and be with you in this time of sorrow.

Dear Aunt Gussie - so sad you are physically missing from those left to mourn you but filled with joy you are no longer suffering. Oh what a reunion you must be having right now. I have so many beautiful memories tied to you. The river bottom, the tree swing, the beautiful swimming hole, the rapids, the petrified tree, the mud fights Gary always won. The always great food and grilled corn on the 4th of July. Uncle Alex singing with his guitar. Driving up to the house that summer to watch man...

Obituary

Augusta "Gussie"'s Obituary

Augusta Lorene “Gussie” Oslick, 91, of San Gabriel, Texas entered into her eternal rest in the early morning hours of May 12, 2019 at Scott and White Hospital in Temple, Texas. She was surrounded by her loving family as she fought a valiant battle following emergency surgery.

Gussie was born on September 24, 1927, in Coupland, Texas, the oldest child of Lorenz Ernest Rieger, Sr. and Ella Nora (Thonig) Rieger.  On January 24, 1947, she married Chester Oslick in Taylor, Texas.  Together they worked and made a life on the family farm near San Gabriel.  Gussie was a wonderful cook and was a master chef of fried chicken, chicken salad, giblet gravy, blackberry and peach cobbler and pecan pie.  She loved her large garden and canned every kind of fresh vegetable.  She loved sharing the garden’s bounty with her family and neighbors.  She had a wonderful green thumb and every plant she touched grew and thrived.  In the 1980’s, her joy increased as she became “Nana” to her grandchildren.  She loved them dearly and she and Chester never missed a sporting event or anything that involved their grandchildren. They were always present, beaming with pride!  Gussie was a faithful, devoted member of the San Gabriel Christian Church for over 70 years and served as the church treasurer for many years.  She loved her church family and never missed a service until declining health caused her to move to the Bartlett area in 2016.

Gussie was preceded in death by her husband, Chester Oslick, in 2003; her parents, 2 infant brothers and an infant sister; a sister, Gean Kolenovsky; a brother, Henry Rieger; and 2 nephews, Russell Kolenovsky and Ricky Baird.

Left to mourn her passing are her sons, Douglas Oslick and wife, Kara, of Thorndale and Gary Oslick and wife, Jackie, of San Gabriel; a sister, Carolyn Baird, of San Gabriel; five grandchildren, Dustin Oslick of Austin, Shannon Oslick Cheshier and husband, Gregg, of Oklahoma City, Jill Oslick Bernstein and husband, Alex, of Cedar Park, Tara Oslick of Los Angeles and Logan Oslick of Thorndale; 2 great granddaughters, Harper and Hadlynne Bernstein. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff at Will O’Bell nursing home for their love and care of Nana and also to the nurses in the ICU, STC and Hospice units at Scott and White Hospital for their love and support during her final days.

A Visitation will be held on Wednesday. May 15th from 6 pm to 8 pm at Providence Funeral Home.  Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, May 16th at 11 am at Providence Funeral Home, 807 Carlos Parker Blvd. NW Taylor, TX 76574.  Interment will be in City of Taylor Cemetery, following the funeral service.

Memorials may be made to the San Gabriel Christian church or to the charity of one’s choice.
