Aurea and I were childhood friends and we also went to Jr. High and High School together. She was a very special friend and fun girl. God bless her and may she rest in peace.

Aurea's Obituary

Aurea Esther Rodriguez 77 of Lorain passed away with her family at her side Wednesday, January 28, 2026.

She was born April 12, 1948 in Lares, Puerto Rico, Aurea came to Lorain at the age of four. She graduated from Admiral King High School in 1966 and went on to pursue nursing. Aurea retired from Mercy Hospital after a 35-year career.  She served as a psychiatric nurse, a role that captured her heart, strength, and compassion for people in challenging times.

Aurea was known for her incredible dance moves and her love of music, travel, and reading. Small in stature but mighty in spirit, she is remembered for her spunky personality, resilient nature, and quick wit.

She is survived by her children Marlene (Jose) Ortiz, David (Denise) Rodriguez; grandchildren Emma and Aurea; sisters Sonia (Rocky) Ortiz and Sylvia Myslinski. 

Her family extends their gratitude to the care team at Larchwood Care Center and St. Augustine Holy Family Health Ministry (hospice) for the compassion and care they provided to Aurea.

Loved ones find comfort in knowing Aurea is now dancing in heaven with her parents, Virginia and Gonzalo Rodriguez, and her sister, Elsa Rodriguez.

Her family will receive friends at Sacred Heart Chapel, 4301 Pearl Ave, Lorain, Ohio 44055 Saturday, February 7, 2026 from 11:00 AM until 12 PM Mass of Christian Burial. Rev. Father Alex Spenik, Pastor officiating. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
