Not sure what to say?

We are sending our love to you and hoping that your hearts will be filled with peace. May Barbara’s memory forever be a blessing and bring joy to your hearts.

I always enjoyed my time with Barbara. She loved to talk about her young life in Parsons, Kansas and the Katy. Since my husband’s grandfather worked for the Katy, I knew some of that life. Barbara was always so kind. I’m thankful I had those times with her and Carol.

Karl, I am saddened by your loss. I always enjoyed visiting with Barbara when in your home. She and Carol were special friends of mine. May God give you peace during these difficult days.

Barbara's Obituary

Barbara Sue Komatz, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on September 28, 2024, at the age of 83. Born to Florence and Morgan Winn on June 2, 1941, Barbara lived a life filled with love, creativity, and adventure.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, October 8, 2024 at St. Mark’s Global Methodist Church with Rev. Al Easterling officiating.

For 62 years, she was the devoted wife of her surviving husband Karl Komatz, with whom she shared a beautiful journey through life. They met and started dating in middle school. Together, they raised four children: daughter Kristen Komatz of Austin, son Timothy Komatz and wife Cindy of Wichita Falls, son Matthew Komatz and wife Bernadette of Wichita Falls, and daughter Karla Corwin and husband Darren of Wichita Falls, TX. Barbara was a proud grandmother to 13 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren, each of whom brought her endless joy.

An avid quilter and charter member of the Red River Quilter’s Guild, Barbara’s talent and passion for the craft led her to create over 100 stunning quilts.  In addition, one of her cherished projects was helping neglected children and she personally made hundreds of baby quilts for child protective services.  This was a labor of love for children placed in protective custody, each one stitched with love and care. Her quilts were cherished gifts for her family and friends, tangible representations of her warmth and creativity.

In retirement, Barbara and Karl embraced their love for travel, embarking on countless adventures across the country in their RV. They especially treasured their three summer long trips to Alaska.  Other places they loved visiting included the New England area and many summers in Fun Valley, Colorado – often with grandchildren. They have visited all 50 states in their journeys, creating memories and many friends that will be forever cherished.

Barbara’s legacy is one of love, kindness, and a spirit of exploration. Her family and friends will miss her dearly, but her memory will continue to warm their hearts, like the beautiful quilts she crafted with such care.

Rest in peace, Barbara. Your life was a masterpiece, stitched with love.
