A Memorial Gathering Weekend 10/4/24 - 10/6/24
Barbara Marie (nee Coker) Legnini, recently residing in Round Hill, Virginia died of natural causes, peacefully in her sleep, at daybreak on Sunday, April 28, 2024. She was 92 years of age. Born and raised in Pennsylvania, Barbara was the first-born child of a woman descending from German/Austrian immigrants and a “good ‘ole Southern” man.
She is preceded in death by her husband and devoted life partner of 70 years, Meric L. Legnini; her parents, James and Marie (nee Pflug-Felder) Coker, youngest brother, John “Jack” Coker, and grandson, Devan Carothers. After attending public schools in Havertown, PA Barbara initiated her college education at Penn State University before marrying Meric, pausing her education pursuits and beginning the adventure of a lifetime. While raising six children, in Newtown Square, PA Barbara returned to her college education, at West Chester State College. Upon moving to Potomac, Maryland in 1979, she volunteered as a Docent at the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History in the District of Columbia. She was employed as a Nutrition Counselor with The Diet Centers, and a Retail Salesperson with G Street Fabrics, Rockville, MD. She was a skilled seamstress, while self-employed making wedding veils and headpieces. Barbara became educated in the sport of Golf, partly to spend time with Meric, yet soon earning her own identity as a competitive and winning golfer and building a large circle of friends. In 2004, Barbara and Meric purchased a home on Skidaway Island, Georgia ultimately relocating in 2012, to continue the life adventure as avid golfers. Barbara maintained her interest in reading for Book Clubs and competitive Bridge. The couple welcomed entertaining family and friends in the beautiful and cultural city of Savannah, GA. Barbara reveled in time spent at the beaches of Tybee Island, GA and Cape May, NJ. Her other passions included cooking, traveling, bird watching, chasing sunsets, caring for plants, both indoors and out, and enjoying activities with her family.
Barbara is survived by her brother, James (Kathy) Coker; her six children: Daniel G. Legnini, Matthew M. Legnini, Joanne (Duff) Carothers, Raymond (Jessica) Legnini, Barbara (Cory) Legnini-Tryon, Ruth (Larry) Ducey; sixteen grandchildren, five great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and many dear friends.
